AT THE GATESの５thはスラッシュメタルをフォーマットとしたメロディックデスメタルサウンドだった。北欧でブーム化していった叙情デスメタルシーンは95年、96年をピークに衰退し、それらを真似る似非バンドの出現とある種のパラドックスの中で生き残りを賭けこの道で大物といわれたバンドも音楽性を変化させていった。このTHE HAUNTEDも解散したAT THE GATESのビョーラー兄弟が中心となって新たに結成したバンドであるがガラリと音楽性を変化させている。この１stではデスメタルの要素を一掃し純粋なスラッシュメタルを披露。彼らはトレンドを嫌う真のメタルスピリットを持った数少ない大物バンドです！

このアルバムが一番好き。ピーターがハードコア特有のメリハリの無い奴？かわいそうにハードコアが嫌いなんですね。そう言う人は是非落ち着いたセカンドから聞きましょう。オープニングトラックは誰がなんと言おうと名曲。

名盤スローターオブザソウルを生んだアットザゲイツ。そのビョーラー兄弟の新バンドがこのホーンテッド。いやあ片やウィッチリーのパトリック・ヤンセンにしても、このビョーラーブラザースにしても、彼のアットザゲイツがいかに凄いデスメタルバンドであったかがよくわかる。さて、このホーンテッドデビューアルバム。一言でいうとメロコア？？（違うか？？）デスラッシュなリズムにボーカルはガナリ系。デス声ではない！でも、格好ええんでおっけい！！ヘイト！ヘイト！！ヘイトソーーー！！
