メロコアともギター・ポップともいいがたい不思議な5人組の1st。幼児的凶暴性を持つギターとお茶目なキーボードのコンビネーションが独特だ。11以外はすべて英語詞。13章に渡る{平和条約}のフルカラー冊子にCDが挟まった異例の形態も話題を呼んでいる。

本人たちに確かめたわけではないのだが、「このアルバムのコンセプトは?」とたずねたら、「こういう音楽が聴きたいと思って作ったんです」と彼らは答えるような気がする。メジャー・デビュー後初となるこのアルバムは、それほどに聴き手の気持ち良さを第一に作られているし、逆に言えば、アーティストのエゴがあまり感じとれない、ちょっと珍しいタイプの音だ。それは彼らに表現欲がないという意味ではなく、自らの奏でるいい音/よくない音を判断する耳が、同系統のほかのバンドと比べても、非常にクールだと感じるのだ。
英国産ギター・ポップ(いわゆるブリット・ポップ)のスタイルに乗っとった、熱いバンド演奏にインテリジェンスとユーモアを感じさせる小粋なメロディ。そして、それらをおおうクールなたたずまい。彼らの想像の中で生まれた理想のギター・ポップを並べたとおぼしき13曲は、バンドのキャラクターをはっきり示しているという意味で、申し分のない傑作と言えるだろう。 (ミヤモトヒデオ) --- 1998年02月号

勢い良く滑りこんでくるメロディ。攻撃的なまでにPOPなテンポ。絶妙なギター、キーボード。ひねくれた歌詞を歌う、大和田の聴きやすい声。

まるで幼児番組向けの歌のように聴きやすく見せかけて、本能的な凶暴性を、シニカルかつユーモラスに刺激してきます。可愛らしいワニのパペットのようです。暴走セサミです。そしてはまったら抜け出せなくなります。音が頭から離れません。

そしてこれを車の中でかけるとやばいです。きっとどんな人でもGOGOとなって、スピード違反で捕まってしまうでしょう。気をつけましょう。

pre-schoolはゼッタイこれでしょう！一曲目からスゴイもん！
これ買って6年くらい経つけど、今だに聞いてるもん。
だって、こういうバンドって居そうで居ないんだもん。
うるさいんだけど、聞きやすいんだもん。
ギターロック以上ハードコア未満だもん。
メンバー皆ガリガリなのも何かイイんだもん。

　ライヴでおなじみ、みんな大好きなFAT MAN THIN MANや、毎回生まれ変わっていくSAD SONGが収録されたメジャー初アルバム。今のこどもたちにはハードな部分が多すぎると思ったらpre school。特にこのアルバムはデビューしたてで元気いっぱいなpre schoolが聞ける。今のこどもたちの英詩には語学学習に向かないものが多すぎると思ったらpre school。全部教科書に載ってもいいような歌詞。ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHYはカウンセリングセンターの先生と一緒に心理学を学ぶ人は必聴。
