内容 (「CDジャーナル・レビュー」より)

ロッカーな北川と、詩人な岩沢。打ちっ放しが得意そうな北川と、壁打ちが似合いそうな岩沢。女を転がしてそうな北川と、女に転がされてそうな岩沢(以上あくまで推測)。コンビというのは凸凹があって成立するもので、だから彼たちの具合はちょうど良いように思われる。
デビュー時からそれぞれの個性は際立っていたのだが、ハードなロック・アレンジありウェットなフォーキーありなこの2作目でことさらに。北川はより直情的に、用意された1台きりのカメラは常に自分を追っている。岩沢はより内省的に、町や夜に溶け込んでしまった二義的な自分を描写している。でもそれではまとまり過ぎるので、互いの世界に飛び込んで、相手を取り込んでやりたいと目論んでいる風でもある。ちょっとシタタカ。だけど今は、それぞれの特徴に歩み寄ることの方が、楽しい。異なる画材でもって同じ心象風景を描いている自分たちに、ささやかな誇りを抱いているようだ。 (堀由希子) --- 1999年11月号

「ゆずらしいアルバムってどれ？」とか、「まずはじめに買うのなら？」と聞かれたら、私は間違いなく「ゆずえん」と答えると思う。
このアルバムは全体を通してまとまりがいいし、ストンと胸に落ちる言葉で一杯。また、ストレートであるか隠れているかはともかく、
ピリっと聞いている風刺なんかもあったりして面白い。
「始まりの場所」は「これを待っていたの！」と叫びだしたいくらい。ゆずの魅力の一つ、”聞いていて気持ちいい音楽”である。
「終わらない映画」は短いながらもスルメ的良さがある。「オーバー」「灰皿の上から」「傍観者」なども味わい深いし、シングルとして発売されたヒットナンバーもやっぱり良曲ぞろい。
聞き終わった後、「ゆずっていいなぁ」と思えるはず。

ゆずのアルバムでどれがいい？と聞かれたら、
やっぱり一番に「ゆずえん」って答えますね！！

一つひとつの曲の表情が違ってて、でもちゃん
とゆずっぽさが残ってるところが何度聞いても
飽きないところです！
ジャケットやブックレットの雰囲気もゆずっぽ
くて、バラードがあったりパンクがあったり、
この一枚でゆずを目一杯感じれると思います！！

勝手ながら、あたしのおすすめは「傍観者」と
「灰皿の上から」です。「傍観者」でかなりノ
リノリになったあとで、次の曲の「灰皿の上か
ら」ですこし落ち着いて聞けちゃうってところ
がすごく好きです。

ほんといい一枚だと思います（≧u≦）

ギターとピアニカの静かな演奏の「えん」から、「始まりの場所」「さよならバス」への明るいノリへの変化がとってもさわやか！

初めてゆずを聞いた人はちょっとビックリする「傍観者」。この曲の悠仁・厚治の二人の息の良さにはシビレさせられます！厚治のハープがカッコよすぎです！！

バラードでは「いつか」「からっぽ」は何度聞いてもジーンとしてしまい、個人的には「悲しみの傘」がおすすめです！アルペジオの静かな感じの中で悠仁の歌声が心に響きます。

最後の「友達の歌」はゆずの中で名曲中の名曲で二人の輪唱ハーモニーで締めくくってくれます。

誰にでも聞きやすいと思うので、ゆずを初めて聞いてみようと思っている人には是非おすすめしたい１枚です！！
