この時代は安全地帯等が出現してきて随分と邦楽界全体が一気にデジタルサウンドへ突入した時代ですが、この曲はそのような情勢をもろに実感できる曲です。イントロからエレクトロピアノにエコーをかけた幻想的な音色にひきつけられます。その後リバーブ系のエレキギターが更に輪をかけて切ない雰囲気にさせます。丁度ギターもエフェクターを色々かけ始めたのもこの頃からだったので、今聞いても尚そのサウンドは新鮮で色あせません。そして桑田のボーカルが乗ってくるわけですが、そのデジタルな曲調と桑田の苦味が入ったハスキーボイスと一見ミスマッチと思いきや絶妙にマッチしているのが不思議な曲です。

およそサザンらしくない曲にも思えますが、編曲は珍しくサザンが絡んでいない曲だったようです。納得。

当初、この曲でなく「海」がシングルで発売される予定でしたが、
急きょ変更して(ジャケットの文字を書き換えて)発売されました。

　　　　サザンの数ある名曲の中でも、　　
　　　　最も強い印象を与えてくれたのはやっぱりコレですね。

　　　　なんか本当にこの時代にできた曲なの？
　　　　て疑いたくなる程サウンドが近代系で、
　　　　
　　　　「こんな凄いサウンドを作れるなんてやっぱりサザンは天才だな~。」
　　　　

　　　　と、しみじみと思わせてくれる一曲です。
　　　　
　　　　曲の出だしやさびへの移り変わり方など、
　　　　本当にカッコ良くて最近の映画のワンシーンみたいです。
　　　
　　　　「サザンのカッコよさ」の頂点に達する名曲ですね。

　　　　
　　　　僕みたいなサザン初心者が言うのもなんですが、

　　　　「サザンの原点ここにあり」って感じの一曲です。
