清水靖晃のテナー・サックスによるバッハの無伴奏チェロ組曲の4番~6番。釜石鉱山の地下空洞やイタリアの16世紀の離宮,同じくイタリアの18世紀の邸宅でそれぞれ録音された。ジャズやロックを吹かせても卓抜な清水だが,実にふくよかで官能的な音色のバッハが響く。

こういうハイブリッド的なアルバムは捉えられ方もいろいろで、ともすれば芸術的見地に邪魔されてアーティストの“思いつき”が無視されがちだ。サキソフォンでバッハの“無伴奏”を吹くこと。それはもちろん技術的な、また音楽的な挑戦だろうが、この楽器の特質をバッハの世界に持ち込む意図でもあるだろう。息によって制御されるフレーズ、独特のブローイング時の強い抵抗。これらの結果として、遅いテンポと深いうねりを持つ一風変わった、しかし心地よいバッハが現出する。クラシックとしてだけ聴けば、こういった事象や技巧面も耳につくが、他の楽器でもあるいはそうだったように、バッハの透明性は、抵抗なくこの闖入を許容し、環境音楽として扱われることをさえ許している。前述した特質からきわめて肉体的/生音的なこのサウンドは、同時に無機的/空間的なサウンドでもあるのだ。収録する空間へのこだわりは、しごく妥当な考察の結果だろう。 (榊順一) --- 1999年12月号

　バッハは２５年来好きで　高じて　小学館の全集を買ってしまったほどである。全集というのは　まとめて買ってしまうと中々聞いたり読んだりしないのは　普遍の真理のような気もするが　いかがでしょうか？

　清水靖晃とは　YMO経由で　これまた２０年来知っている音楽家である。アルバムも　なんとなく３枚程度買って　ごくごくたまに聞く程度だった。

　この二つがいわば結晶したのが　本作品である。聞いて仰天した。サックスが　かようにバッハ演奏に向いた楽器だとは思いもしなかったからである。さらに　仰天したのは　サックスで吹く　バッハの艶かしさである。このようにきらめくことが出来る音楽であるとは知らなかった。

　長生きしていると（といっても未だ４０歳だが）色々面白いことがあると思ったのが　初めて聴いた後の　素直な感想である。

CELLO SUITES1.2.3の方があまりにも有名な清水靖晃のアルバムですがどうしてどうして、私にはこちらの４・５・６の方に最近は好みが変わってきました。特に第六楽章第一番のプレリュードは聴いていてもうなんともいえないさわやかな気分にさせれてしまいます。そう、あたかも草原を駆け抜ける一陣の風、とでもいうべきでしょうか・・・。続くアルマンドの神々しさにはもうただただ平伏。コントロールの難しいフラジオ音域でのあの表現は筆舌に尽くしがたく、チェロでの本来の演奏をある意味凌ぐとさえ私は思います。ここでのレビューを読むよりも、先ずは買って聴いてみることです。
