一曲目のFuture Breed Machineを聞いてください。
速くて、重くて、馬鹿みたいに変拍子してます。
このリズムは気持ち悪すぎて気持ち良いです。

Meshuggah中毒になると気持ち良いです。
後遺症が残ってしまうのが問題です。
私はMeshuggahのせいで他のバンドが劣って聞えてしまうという症状が治りません。

スウェーデンのテクニカルデスラッシュバンドMeshuggahの2nd、91年発表の1st Contradictions collapseではMetallicaの影響を色濃く反映していたが、本作との間の94年にはEP NoneでPanteraばりのモダンへヴィネスへと路線転換した。本作では鬼才Fredrik Thordendalのギターワークが冴えまくり、アラン・ホールズワースばりのソロが変拍子を多用した重厚なバッキングの中で独特のバランスを作っている。1. Future breed machineの意表をつくイントロはStrapping Young LadのCityを彷彿させ、近未来的な世界観が全編を貫いている。中盤以降はミドルテンポの曲調とVo. Jens Kidmanのやや一本調子のスタイルからかダレるが、5thアルバムの製作が進行中の現在でもなおその先進性は色褪せてはいない。

初めて聴いたときは、こんな音楽があるのか！と心底驚かされた。
一聴しただけでは到底理解不能なほどに複雑な曲展開と、圧倒的なアグレッション、そしてミュージシャンとしてのスキル。
まさに、これこそが真のエクストリームミュージックだ。

彼らは自分たちの音楽を『テクニカルデス/スラッシュ』だとか『プログレッシブデスメタル』などという言葉で括られるのを非常に嫌う。
なぜなら彼らの音楽はそんな言葉では表現することのできない多様さを見せているし、そのサウンドはメシュガーにしか出すことができないからだ。

とにかく音楽に究極の刺激を求めるのなら聴くべきだろう。
