このアルバムは最後に収録に成っている"God Of Emptiness"で決まり（断言！）。恐ろしい事にこの曲は英国ではシングルにも成り、ヴィデオクリップまで存在する。そして、この出来がまた凄まじい。今作はデスメタル界初(?!)、アメリカのメジャーであるGIANT Recordsからの発売。流石に大手だ、ヴィデオにもこれでもか、と、まるで映画並みの金が掛かっていたが、まあ、そんな事はどうでも良い事か。話変わって、Ozzy Osbourneのベスト盤に"Back On Earth"という新曲が収録に成っているが、そのヴィデオを初めて目にした時思ったのが、｢Ozzyが"God Of Emptiness"をカヴァーしたら面白いだろうな ＾с＾｣であった。それ程、曲やヴィデオの雰囲気（飽くまで雰囲気）が似ている。どんよりとして、中世的で、重苦しい、昨今流行の中世の騎士物のサントラの一節の様な音である。話戻ってMorbid Angel。デス声が苦手な方でも、きっとこの"God Of Emptiness"だけには、デス声の必然性を見い出して頂けると信じるに値する名曲。この曲を境にデスメタルに雪崩込んでもわたしは責任持てませんが.........。

フロリダ出身、デス・メタルの原理主義者たちによる93年発表の3rd。国内盤は２年遅れて95年にリリース。
リチャード・ブルーネルがバンドを去り、３人体制で制作された。
『Earache』を離れ大手の『Giant』と契約。メジャー第一弾として世に放たれた、バンド史上最高傑作。
実際、Morbid angelの全アルバム中、本作が最も売り上げが多い。

まあこういうのは売り上げが全てってわけでもないかもしれんけど(笑)

過去２作と比べて、またこの時代・このジャンルの音楽としては、信じられないほど音質もよく、各楽器の音も聞き取りやすい。
ヴィンセントの咆哮、アザトースのギター、そしてサンドヴァルの機関銃のようなドラムの凄さがよくわかる。

歪みきったサウンドで描き出す、歪みきった世界。
無慈悲･無常の世界の極地。

迫力や貫禄などといった次元を超越し、もはや神々しさすら漂わせるようになったヘヴィで邪悪なリフの上を、アザトースによる狂気じみた、しかし美しさすら漂わせるソロが紡がれる。

前半はブラスト･ビート全開の疾走曲、後半は邪悪さ･不穏さを強く押し出したミディアム・スローテンポな曲という構成。
７はMortorheadちっくなロックンロール風味。
意外な感じだが、これはこれで聞いてて楽しい(笑)

もしMorbid angelの世界に初めて触れてみたいという方がおられるなら、本作と、96年のライヴ盤「Entangled in Chaos」の２枚をお薦めする。

ちなみに本作発表当時、私は中２。ラジオのメタル番組をテープに録音するなど、そろそろメタルに目覚め始めた頃(笑)

5.0 out of 5 stars 素晴らしいアルバム, 2006/8/24
93年発表の3rdアルバム。プロデューサーにMETALLICAのサウンド作りに功のあったフレミング・ラスムッセンを迎えた作品。MORBID ANGELが完璧に世界進出したのが本作でサウンドもクリアーになり、良い意味解り易くなったが彼等の音から漂う暗黒臭は変わる事無く、突進する強靭さは健在!これこそエクストリーム・ミュージック。ただ速いだけではなく整合性を持って示している。
