　壮大なスケールをもったアカデミー賞受賞作品のサントラにふさわしい
充実の一枚！オープニングの「The　English　Patient」から
まさに異国の雰囲気がたっぷり！と言ったメロディーが聞こえてくる。
　時代を感じさせる「Cheek　to　Cheek」や、ピアノのメロディーが
何とも言えない「コンヴェント・ディ・サンタナ」。

　そして何といっても極めつけはエンディングの「As Far as Florence」
だろう。それまでに聞いてきた26曲がここに全て集約され、一層胸を
しめつけてくれる。マールタのハミングが聞こえて、消えて、再び聞こえて
くるラストがたまらない・・・。

ズビグニェフ・プレイスネルというあまり知られてない人ですが、この長い話を完全に掌握しきった才能あるコンポーザーです。

導入部からすごく静かな作りで始まりますが、この映画で使われていた音楽がいかにレベルが高かったのかを再確認する出来です。
無理にドラマチックに仕上げていなくて、監督のセンスがわかります。

劇中で使われたハンガリー民謡、ハンガリーというのはヨーロッパとアジアの双方の匂いを持っているといわれていますが、これまたいい味を出していますね。
レイフ＝ファインズの胡散臭さをうまくエキゾチックなものへと変換させていると思います。

ちょっと中だるみしそうなところで、うまくミュージカル（アステア）、クラシック（ゴルドベルク）も使うあたりも気に入ってます。
個人的にはジュリエット＝ビノシュのシーンに使われている曲がわりに少ないのではという気がしますが、この映画の真の主役が誰だったかということをスコアでも表現していたということなんでしょう。

映画の性格をよく表していますし、スコア自体もなかなか良品ぞろいですので、サントラと知らずに買うのもありなのではと思うくらいの一作です
