　現在も横浜にある「港が見える丘公園」は平野愛子のヒット曲から名づけられた公園で、いかに当時この曲がヒットしたかを物語るエピソードです。

　終戦直後のビクター新人歌手募集に応募し、「長崎物語」を歌って見事新人歌手の座を掴むことが出来ました。彼女の声には艶があり、うっとりとしたムードを聞かせてくれます。このＣＤには、「月よりの使者」の片面に収められた「夜霧の砂丘」など、ヒット曲のみならず隠れた名曲も収められており、コンビとしてよくステージに立った竹山逸郎とのデュエット曲も収録されてるのも珍しいと思います。
　昭和５６年に若くして世を去りましたが、今は忘れ形見のお嬢さま、平野淑子さんが、彼女のヒット曲を歌い継いでいます。

　ここに収められた「港が見える丘」と「君待てども」の２つが、日本の歌謡曲の長い歴史の中でも、曲・歌唱ともに最高の作品に属すると考えているのは、もちろん私だけではあるまい。このほか、このＣＤには、”若きブルースの女王”と呼ばれたこの名歌手が最も輝いた時代の、多くの作品が収録され、しかもその大部分は、今日ほとんど耳にできない貴重なものである。
　さらに、このＣＤのもう一つの値打ちは、ブルース調以外の曲にも、彼女の多彩な魅力と可能性が感じられる逸品が含まれていることだ。中でも、「霧の中の女」（パソ・ドブレ？）は、ネオン街の情感にあふれ、平野愛子究極の魅惑的なディクションと美声を満喫できる。また、珍しくアルゼンチン・タンゴスタイルの、「幻の港」も聴き逃せない。ここでは平野は、楽団の熱演にはさまれたワンクールだけを、本場のリフレイン歌手風にさらりと歌いこなしている。
