他の著名なレビュワーも指摘している通り、これは、サザンが初の1位になったアルバムであり、非常に練られた、初期の傑作と思う。
アルバムのタイトルは、ハワイアン＝バンドからつけられた。創作活動の時間が無かったという意見もみかけるが、実際は前作よりも時間をかけ、着実に、アイディアを昇華させ、更なるサザン節をも確立させたと確信する。
一曲目のディアン＝オールマン風のスライドギターからして、魅力全開で、ストーリー性のある「タバコ＝ロードにセクシーばあちゃん 」など、出出しから、リスナーの心をつかむ。
初めて歌詞に、ビリー＝ジョエルの名が出てくる名曲「私はピアノ＝マン」や、月に一度の女性の日を歌った「恋するマンスリー＝デイ 」にはびっくりさせられた。
ドラムの松田サンが歌う8曲目も最高のバラッドで、セクシー＝ソングの先行代名詞「C調言葉に御用心」、当時の産業音楽シーンへの風刺ソングでありながら、名バラッドの「働けロックバンド」。。もう脱帽である。
小生の、一番の、お気に入りは、「涙のアベニュー」である。洋楽ファンなら、思わず「ニヤリ」としてしまうつくりなのだが、実は、これは、バラッドではない。ブルースである。ブルー＝ノートを使った、リードギターが魅力であり、彼らがリスペクトする、クリック＝クラプトンの「だれも知らない」という名曲の影響も感じられる。
尚、この作品で、一番光るのは、3曲目である。「Hey　Ryude」ではなく、「Hey Ryudo」と名づけた桑田サンのセンスには、ただ拍手である！
もしかしたら、桑田サンも、「Hey Judo」が好きだったのだろうか？

つい口ずさんでしまうメロディ。桑田さんのあの独特な歌いまわし。そしてこのアルバムの最大の魅力は、
ドラムの松田さんが歌う「松田の子守唄」。
どこか秋を思わせる曲はもうサザンワールドにどっぷりハマッてしまいます。
僕的には全曲おすすめ！！

あいかわらず初期のサザンはいろいろな音楽に挑戦しています。
ジャズ調の「Hey！Ryudo！」、おもいっきり歌謡曲の原さんが唄う「私はピアノ」、歌詞と題名が意味わからん「タバコロードでセクシーばあちゃん」、（等々１１曲収録）
2nd（「１０ナンバーズ・からっと」）での堅苦しさがとけて、いいアルバムになってると思います。
