バックがクリエイションとエディー藩だというので、竹田和夫とエディーのギターが楽しめる、という目論見で買った一枚。松田優作の歌にも興味あったし。結果、名盤だというのがわかりました。歌も演奏も渋い！熱い！優作の歌は、いわゆるヘタウマで、味わい深いしわがれ声が、とてもよい。また、竹田和夫とエディー藩のギターも予想通り、とても熱い、リキの入ったもので最高。ドラムもツインだし、ベースもフェンダージャズベらしい音でマル。予想以上のよさに、大満足です。周知のとおりもう故人なので、もうライブも映画も新作がないのは哀しいが、こういう優れた記録媒体がある限り、僕達の心の中で、彼は元気に生きていく事を、改めて実感。多くの人に聴いて欲しいです。

ファンの方はご存知の松田優作主演映画「ヨコハマＢＪブルース」のサントラ盤の意味合いも持つ傑作アルバム「HARDEST DAY」を引っ提げたツアー音源からのライブ盤です。どっぷりブルーズに浸かっている訳ではなく、むしろハードボイルドを音にしたような印象を受けました。
「ホンキートンクウーマン」はROLLING STONESの名曲を日本語でカバーしたもの。同じくSTONESの曲と同名の「ミッドナイトランブラー」は同名異曲で聴けるのはこのライブ盤だけ、「HARDEST DAY」には収録されていません。
「灰色の街」「BAY CITY BLUES」「マリーズララバイ」と男気を感じさせる気持ちの籠もった唄が強靭なバックに支えられて次々と披露される。断然ライブのほうが熱い！！　そしてこのアルバムを名盤と決定付ける名唱といえる(5)「YOKOHAMA HONKY TONK BLUES」が。至極の一品として強くオススメです。
