橋幸夫のリズム歌謡を集めたベスト盤です。
リズム歌謡というのは、エレキ、サーフィン、スイム、ホットロッド、アメリアッチなど60年代に若物に流行したダンスのリズムを取り入れた歌謡曲で、ビートルズよりも早くステレオ録音を取り入れたことなど、サウンド面での斬新さが目立ちます。

　テレビでよく歌う腰のクネクネ清水アキラがマネをする「恋のメキシカンツイスト」も収録されているし、マツケンサンバ並に前奏が長い「恋をするなら」も有名です。
　ブックレットの中でリズム歌謡研究家、厚家羅漢という名前でライナーを寄稿しているのは大滝詠一さんです。
　ポップファンなら永遠の愛聴盤となることでしょう！

いやはや、たまらんなあ。これはたまらん。
あのこもこのこもピチ娘ー
だなんて、昨今のポップスにはない笑いのレベルである。
ふざければ楽しいなんて妄想を吹き飛ばす橋幸夫の一側面に脱帽。

「恋のメキシカン・ロック」など、今日では絶対ありえない語彙センスが爆発している名（迷）作。全曲コミックソングと勘違いされていますが、収録曲全てが当時正統派Jポップとしてヒットしております（笑）。ちなみに歌っている橋さん自身が当時すでに「メキシコでマラカス振ってんのにロックなんておかしいよな……」と自己矛盾感じまくりの状態だったらしいですが、仕事として割り切って歌ったら意外にも大ヒットしてしまった（しまったというところが何とも……）と後に正直に語っているところがほほえましいというか、真剣な笑いが人に届く極意を教えてくれるかのような含蓄に満ちた深い一作です！？
