88年に録音したメル・トーメとマーティ・ペイチ（アレンジャー）との再会セッション盤。両者の共演は56年録音のベツレヘム盤「メル・トーメ＆ザ・マーティ・ペイチ・デクテット」が最初である。そのあと「シングス・フレッド・アステア」「アット・ザ・クレッセンド」「カリフォルニア組曲」といった一連のベツレヘム盤でも共演、絶妙なコラボレーションは大評判になった。その路線はヴァーヴ時代にも受け継がれ、あの名作「スウィングス・シューバート・アレイ」が生まれた。しかしなぜかその後は共演の機会がなく、本作はヴァーヴ盤以来28年ぶりの再会セッションということで話題になった。
常に新しいものに挑戦するメルは<2><7>といったスティーリー・ダンのナンバーも取りあげ、前向きな姿勢を示す。ディズニー映画メドレー<3>、ボサノヴァ・メドレー<4>など、メルの専売特許ともいえるメドレーも見事な仕上がりで、巧みなスキャットにも魅了される。ジャズ・ヴォーカルの楽しさとスリルに満ちた極上のヴォーカル作品である。（市川正二）
