   ブルガリア東部に生まれたフィリップ・クーテフは、ブルガリア国立アカデミーを卒業し、近代的な西欧音楽の体系に属する作曲家として第一歩を踏み出した。フィールド・ワークで民謡を収集するうちにその魅力に気づき、合唱用にアレンジした。そして52年に組織されたのが「ブルガリア国立放送合唱団」である。
   クーテフが各地の村からいい声の娘を集めたせいもあって、女性の神秘の声が織りなす異次元のハーモニーは世界中で注目を集めた。88年12月に、五反田簡易保険ホールにてデジタル録音された話題のアルバムだ。（新井由己）

88年のフィリップ・クーテフ合唱団初来日公演に行きました。当時２~３社のＣＭで使われていました。
最近またＣＭで使われているのを聞いて、はるか昔においてきてしまった自分の中の懐かしいものが呼び覚まされました。

「ブルガリアン・ポリフォニーI・II」「ブルガリア　ブルガリアン・ヴォイスRITUAL」と「ブルガリア　神秘の歌声」を併せて買ったのですが、やはりこの「ブリガリアン・ポリフォニーI」が一番のお勧めです。

民族音楽を聴くと心と体が踊り出しそうになる方に是非聴いて欲しいです。曲順まで細かく構成されたこのアルバムは感動的です。作られた方のブルガリアンヴォイスへの愛を感じます。

不思議で複雑な音程で合唱され、素朴で力強くそして独特のリズムがあります。前半は透明感と厳粛さが漂い教会で賛美歌を聴いているような気分にもなります。器楽だけの曲も入っていてこれがまたいいのです。全体的に洗練されています。

ちなみに「神秘の歌声」は歌声が力強く素朴なアルバムで、土の匂いがしてきそうな感じです。「ブルガリア」はクーテフ亡き後を受け継いでいるドラ・フリストヴァの指揮の下での録音で、メンバーも入れ替わり男声も入った比較的新しい録音のようです。

　何とも不思議な合唱である。そして、無上に美しい。一体何部合唱なのか見当も付かない。そして、こころの深い部分――魂というべき領域か――にじかに訴えてくる声である。「大地」「いのち」「ふるさと」そんな言葉が混沌として浮かぶが言葉にしてしまうとつまらなくなる。大地に根を下ろして生きる人々のたましいの声。わたしたちが帰るべきところを指し示しているのかもしれない。
