とにかく個性あふれる珠玉の音楽ばかり！のんびりしていて「昼行灯」のあだ名があった大石内蔵助のテーマ曲は、のほほんとした中にもどこかきっぱりした意志の強さが出ていて、まるで内蔵助自身のよう。その他にも、清廉潔白である浅野内匠頭のテーマや、その妻の、少女のようで可憐な阿久利のテーマ、女の最高地位まで昇りつめようとする染子のテーマなど、その人物の人格をそのまま音符にしたような曲ばかり。ドラマを見ていた人はもちろん、そうでない人も楽しめるサントラとなっている。
サントラといえば場面を思い出させるものが多いが、場面だけでなく人物像までを思い出させるサントラはあまりないのでは。
