楽曲の美しさを引き出すことに関しては天才的なリヒテルですが、シューベルトの様に元々美しい楽曲での演奏は、単に美しく弾く以上の「何か」を私達に伝えてくれます。
個人的にはモーツァルトやバッハは演奏によってかなり曲の印象が変わり、とりわけシューベルトはその最たるものではないかなと思います。リヒテルはシューベルトの楽曲の本質を完全に掌握している様に感じます。何とも素晴らしく、聴き終えた後の充足感は他のピアニストでは味わえなかったです。

グレン・グールドはこの演奏を聴いて「最高にして最強の音楽伝道師」とリヒテルを称したことはあまりにも有名ですが、このコメントからも演奏の完成度の高さをうかがい知ることが出来ます。

　シューベルトの死の年である1828年に作曲された、ピアノのための最後のソナタ。全４楽章のうち、音楽、演奏とも、前半２楽章が断然素晴らしいですね。
　たっぷりとした遅いテンポで奏でられてゆく第１楽章冒頭のメロディー。思わせぶりであるとともに、思いの限りをこめて綴られていく音楽が、しみじみと胸に迫ってきました。
　第２楽章は、全曲の白眉。宝石のように美しい粒立ちのピアノの音に乗って、味わい深い音楽が流れ流れてゆく･･････。なんて美しく、素晴らしいんだろうと魅了されましたねぇ。リヒテル、さすがの名演奏です。

　録音は、1972年の８月〜11月にかけて。ザルツブルグ近郊のアニフ宮殿にて。リヒテルの名演として忘れられないバッハの『平均律クラヴィーア曲集』の録音（1970〜1973年にかけて）と同時期に演奏されたもの。

　この曲の名演として、聴き逃すのはもったいない一枚。しみじみとしたシューベルト最晩年の音楽の味わい、ピアノの美しい音など、春宵一刻値千金的リヒテルのピアノの調べが心にしみます。

シューベルトの最後のピアノソナタにして、４０分以上の大曲です。これほど長いピアノソナタでありながらも、何百曲の歌曲を作曲してきたシューベルトの得意とするところでもあるのでしょうか、ところどころに聞かせどころが散りばめられていて、聞くものをあきさせません。
リヒテルのこの曲の演奏は数あるリヒテルの演奏の中でも５本の指に入るほどの演奏です。この上ない美音に彩られていて、かつ心に曲の詩情が染み入ってくる、やはりこの人は２０世紀最高のピアニストだと再確認させられます。
ピアニスト、リヒテルが大好きな人、シューベルトが大好きな人には是非聞いてもらいたい曲であり、演奏です。
