荻野目洋子と言えば、アイドルという枠でありながら長山洋子と共にあの時流行だった、ダンスサウンドを巧みに取り入れた歌手としての印象が強い。が本アルバムは♪１６を除いては、おおよそその方向性は異なる。しかも、おそらく相当のファンではなければ、曲目を眺めると「本当にベスト？」と思う人もいるかもしれないし、大方の人は「ダンシングヒーロー」しか知らないかもしれない。「ダンシング」を切欠に彼女は大ブレイクを果たし「六本木純情派」「湾岸太陽族」等次々とヒットを連発しているのは周知の通りだが、どうやら「ダンシング」に至るまで２年近く下積み時代を過ごしていたらしく、６曲近くシングルを出していたようだ。それらが、漏れなく収録されているのでやはり「ベスト」なのである。

流石に「未来航海」辺りは８４年のシングルという事でサウンドからしてやや古めかしさは否めない、が一般的に思われている「荻野目ダンスサウンド」とはかなり違ったデビュー曲であり、このような曲調を聞くのはある意味新鮮でもある。続く、シングル♪３も♪１と同じくマイナー調の曲である。これに限らず、初期シングルはどうやらマイナー調の曲が多い印象だ。しかし、ダンスサウンドでは無きにせよ、やはりビートをどこかしら感じる曲も結構多い。

また、♪６は井上大輔、♪８は坂本龍一等下積みにしては、中々の作家陣に囲まれているのもまた興味深い。

自分は、ＬＰ盤を愛聴しているがレコード盤だとやたら音が良く聞こえるのは気のせいだろうか？とくに♪１６に至っては、心の底から響き渡るベースとドラム音にやられっぱなしだ。

とにかく、隠れたベストであり、メジャー所しか知らない人たちには、良かれ悪かれ予想を裏切られるに違いない。

　当時の荻野目ファンも既に３０代半ばくらい？　そんなファンには懐かしい名曲がズラリ。そういう私も，ダンシング以前のバラード大好きファンでした。
「さよならから始まる物語（ストーリーと読む）」
　・・・大丈夫とあなたに言いたい。胸キュンものの物語を美しいメロディにのせて歌っています。
「心のままに」
　・・・鳥が空を飛ぶように風が雲を運ぶように，心自由に旅立って。足を止めないで・・・切ないメロディなのに勇気が出る，そんな曲。

　早く大人になって東京へ出て，荻野目ちゃんに会いたいと真剣に考えていたのは中学の頃・・・。「六本木純情派」の頃になって，手の届かない存在であったことに気付いたのでした。私にとっては，思春期の甘酸っぱい思い出がたっぷり詰まったアルバムです。

デビュー2年目のベストアルバムである。
荻野目洋子というと、
どうしても「ダンシングヒーロー」のイメージが多いと思うが、
実は「ダンシングヒーロー」はシングルとしては7枚目で、
それ以前にもシングルは出ていた。
このベストは、それらのシングルも収録されているが、
おおよそシングル7枚目で、方向転換をしていくあたりは、
このベストで十分に堪能できる。
実は、私はこういう「売れる境目とそれまでの境目」っていうのが
わかりやすいベストアルバムは、非常に好きで、
柏原芳恵しかり、浅香唯しかり、
それまでの曲とその後の曲を比較しながら聴き、
「この瞬間に何があったのだろう？」ということを、
色々想像しながら聴くのが大好きな悪いファンである。
しかし「それまで」の曲も、アイドル路線としては、
非常に佳曲が並んでいるので、
ぜひ、一度は機会があれば・・・。
