　クナッパーツブッシュのブルックナーはその種類も多く、演奏、録音ともに良いとなると慎重なチョイスが必要な場合もありますが、ミュンヘン・フィルとの８番は素晴らしいものです。
　クナッパーツブッシュは練習嫌いで有名、多くの逸話も残っていますが、それは１回の演奏への集中度、燃焼度を高めるうえでの「方法論」といった視点もあるのではないでしょうか。深くえぐり取られるような音の「沈降」と一気に上昇気流に乗るような音の「飛翔」のダイナミクスの大きさは他ではなかなか聴けません。音楽の設計スケールの大きさが「桁違い」で、こういう演奏をする人にこそ巨匠（ヴィルトゥオーソ）性があると言うのでしょう。歴史的な名盤だと思います。

そのスケ−ルの大きさな構成で、日本でもファンの多いブルックナーの第８番です。
クラシックの楽しみといえば、指揮者・オーケストラの聴き比べですが、ブル８といえば、昔から、シューリヒト（ウィーンフィル）と並んで、名作に挙げられることの多い１枚です。両アルバムの違いを一言で言えば、前者の「躍動」に対し、後者は「深み」といえばいいでしょうか。どちらのアルバムも、スケールが大きく、美しい楽曲を、オケを十二分に鳴らしながら表現しているのですが、よりゆったりと進んでいくのが後者かと。そのせいもあり、当アルバムは、ＣＤ２枚に分けられています。
今の自分としては、前者の躍動感が好きなのですが、どちらも、ブル８を雄弁に再現したアルバムであり、ブルックナー、とりわけブル８ファンにはお奨めの１枚です。

　高校時代この演奏をLPで初めて聴きました、そのときの印象はフルトヴェグラーのベードウェン第９交響曲(バイロイト版)に匹敵するものでした。現在改めてこのCDで聴くと天界の調べに満ちあふれているといった感じです。3楽章は評価によってはテンポが遅すぎもたれ気味とも言われているが、自分が生まれる前世の霊界の雲の中に漂っているような感じになります。4楽章の音の彩の美しさはちょっと言葉では表現できません。この演奏は録音されたものとしては5指に数えられる最高の演奏だと思います。この録音の少し前の同曲のライブが状態のよい録音で残っていればよいのですが･････
