確かにアンチポップなアルバムだ。狂気の天才、ベース奏者兼ヴォーカリストのレス・クレイプール率いるプライマスは『Jerry Was a Race Car Driver』と『Wynonna's Big Brown Beaver』で成功を収めた。いつもの熱狂的なスタッカートとリズムに駆り立てられるチューンは健在で、抵抗しがたい牽引力を持ち挑発的。北カリフォルニア出身の異彩グループ、ミスター・バングルズと同様に、プライマスのユーモアはいたるところに見られるが、ウィヤード・アル(アル・ヤンコビック。通称「おかしなアル」)風ではない。クレイプールの鼻にかかった歌い方は、アルに似ていなくもないが。 「中1の時からシンナー吸って……」 (「Lacquerhead」)や自伝的なタイトル曲(「俺はアンチポップ。倒れるまで抵抗し走り続ける」など、ほとんどはプライマスの特許つきともいえるファンクポップ。そんなの中で新機軸もいくつか見られる。ピンクフロイドに弟子入りしたかのような宇宙的な広がりを持つ「Eclectic Electric」や、かなりトム・ウェイツっぽい「Coattails of a Dead Man」はクールだ。
