5.0 out of 5 stars 1回目よりも3回目、10回目に聴いた時に、もっと好きになる音楽, 2002/6/23
映画「Magnolia」で一躍認知度を上げたAimee Mannの2ndアルバム。彼女の音楽はAlternative Rockを飲み込んだ、Elvis CostelloとJoni Michelの子供、と言うことが出来るかもしれない。ミドルテンポに低めの声で歌われる彼女の曲は派手さはないが一度好きになってしまうと距離を取ることが難しくなってしまう、そんな音楽だ。

このアルバムは「Magnolia」のサントラや3rdアルバムと同じ雰囲気を持っているが、全体として歪んだguitarとacoustic guitar、そしてpianoが印象的なバンドっぽさが前面に出ている。あの Bernard Butler がguitarで参加、さらに Juliana Hatfiledもコーラスで参加している。特にJuliana Hatfieldとのハーモニーはとても切なくきまっている。

本当にこの人の音楽というものは素晴らしい。それがカントリーだろうが、オルタナだろうが、スタイル云々より聞かせてしまう「力」を持っている。そんなことが強く感じられるアルバム。歌詞も歌詞で大人の真実の男女関係を描いていて、こんな清々しさはなかなか邦楽では味わえないかも。

曲によっては母のような暖かさを感じます。
