おっさん達、留まる事を知りません。
この年でもう既に何枚も名盤を作っているのに、それらを更に超える傑作を作りました。
インタビューで書いてありましたが、曲を作っているときに”ジョンレノンが舞い降りてきた”などと言っているほどの最高な状態で作成したベストを除く９枚目の作品はエアロ現時点での最高傑作といわざる得ないでしょう。

全ての曲が素晴らしく、全ての曲の演奏が素晴らしく、全ての曲のミクシングも素晴らしく、全ての曲のアレンジが素晴らしい。
全く持って非の打ち所が無いとはこのことです。

このアルバムは必聴盤。ヒット曲がたくさん生まれたというのはむしろ補足でしかない。

前作パンプが大ヒットして完全復活を印象づけたエアロが、次にどういった作品を作ってくるのか大いに興味が集まった。当時ハードロックが下火になりつつあり、もう後が無いと個人的には危惧していたが、とんでもないアプローチでさらに飛躍を見せた彼らに本当に度肝を抜かれた。

サウンド面でもオススメできる理由がある。ギターバンドであるエアロのギターがすごく良く聴こえるのだ。ジョーとブラッドのギターがきれいに録音されていてすごく聴き応えがある。正直「パーマネント~」以降のアルバムのギターは轟音の一つのうねりみたいなサウンド作りで、はっきりとしたギターが聴き取れず、そういう面ではあまり好!ではなかったのだ。その点このアルバムは曲のクオリティでもサウンド面でも100点があげられるアルバムだ。

この「Get a grip」のあと「Nine Lives」と「Just push play」が発表されるわけだが、今２００４年の時点で振り返ってもやはりこれがエアロの最高傑作だと思う。「Just push play」はデジタル的に作ってみるとバンドが公言して実験的に作った作品だが、既にその前の「Nine Lives」のサウンドはデジタル的に過ぎる感じがしていた。本作「Get a grip」ではよく聞くとコンピュータで作らなければありえないサウンドが多くあり、初期エアロのアナログ的なうねりが生み出すバンドサウンドとうまく融合している。バンドの歴史から見て、バランス感覚がピークにある感じがある。バラードも売れ線狙いのできあいの曲ではなく、スティーヴン魂の咆哮と言った感じ。リズム＆リードの絶妙のギターコンピも全曲通して大暴れで、強烈なフロントを支えるリズムセクションは円熟味を増して隙がない。これを超える作品は、そう簡単には作れないだろう。誰に対しても心配なく勧められるロックの傑作だ。
