音楽は『レ・ミゼラブル』のコンビ、ブーブリルとシェーンベルグ。
「レ・ミゼ」と同様、ほぼすべて歌で進められていくので、ＣＤを聴くだけで舞台の流れは理解できます。

話はベトナム戦争時のベトナム人女性とアメリカ兵との悲恋もので、悲劇は悲劇ですが、この作品そのものは、ありがちと言えばありがちな、欧米の視点から描かれたメロドラマという印象です。（←私の偏った個人的な印象です。実際舞台を観れば、もちろん感動はします！）

ですが、歌はさすがにドラマティック。ベトナム人キムとアメリカ兵クリスのバラード調のロマンティックなナンバーから、アメリカに憧れるヤクザなベトナム人男エンジニアの派手なソロ（「レ・ミゼ」のテナルディエのナンバーのような感じ）など見せ場も多く、冒頭のヘリコプターの音も臨場感たっぷり。

キム役は、この作品が出世作で、後にディズニー映画の吹き替えや、ロンドン、ブロードウェイの数々の舞台に立つリア・サロンガ。力強い歌声がとても印象的です。

とにかく生録音のライブ盤なので聴くだけで観劇した気分を味わえます。特にキムとクリスが織り成す『SUN＆MOON』と最後の『命をあげよう』は絶品です。

ミスサイゴンは音楽が美しいです。
ロンドンキャストのキム役レア.サロンガの声はキムのイメージそのままでピカイチ!!目を閉じて聴いてもストーリーが浮かんできます。
