ミックテイラーがこのアルバムを最後にストーンズをやめている。

ロックロールサーカスと混同しそうなので、しっかり聞いた。エンジニアとはもめたアルバムであるらしいが（主要な人物がおろされたりしている。）山羊の頭のスープのあと、すぐにレコーディングに入ったためその場の雰囲気は悪くなかったようだ。ミックジャガーがプロデューサーの仕事に絡み、厳しい状況もあったようだが、基本的にほろ酔い気分の軽いセッションで出来上がったような、いいアルバムだったようだ。
イッツオンリーロックンロールの素直な歌詞が響き、ストーンズの代表曲になった。個人的にはイフユーリアリーウォントトゥビーマイフレンドも大好きなのだが・・・。

~友達のプロのギタリストと話をしていて、ストーンズだと何が好き？と聞いたら、このアルバムの名前が出てきて、ちょっとびっくりした。たいてい、Let It BleedからExile on Main Streetまでのどれかか、Love you liveからStill LIfeまでのどれかを上げるのが普通のストーンズファンだからだ。

このアルバム、ミックテイラーが参加した最後の作品で、彼らの代名詞になったタイトルと同名の曲が入っている、という以外には、実はあまり知られていない。アメリカでは１位になったが、シングルはトップ１０に食い込めず、セールス的にもやや苦戦していたのだ。

しかし中身は実はかなり濃い。If you can't rock meやDance Little~~ Sisterなど、ライブでやるとたまらないアップテンポ・ナンバーがあり、テイラーの畢生の傑作ソロが聴けるTime Waits for No Oneが入っているし、ラストのFingerprint Fileも今聞くとかなりよく作り込んである。サウンドの深さや緻密さは玄人であればあるほどビビッと反応したくなるようなものなのだ。

そして、それがこのアルバムが多くのストーンズ・ファンにはいまいち受けなかったのかもしれない。ストーンズ特有の奔放さやワイルドさが、洗練されてしまった結果抜けているような印象をうける、というわけだ。

でも、今聞くとほんと、特にギター弾きの人にとっては垂涎の傑作揃いだと思う。Ain"t too proud to~~ begなども、簡単にカバーしているように見えて相当工夫しているし。何Noｩ聴いてから、手を出してみるとよいアルバムかもしれない。~

ストーンズの中でも屈指のロックロールが聴けるアルバム。
いろいろなストーンズがあると思うが、ロックンロールと言えばこれになるかな。
ブルースも良いし、Ｒ＆Ｂも良い。しかし、ロックンロールは最高です。
たかがロックンロール、でも大好きなんだな。

何と言ってもタイトル・ソングは僕にとってのSTONESの象徴です。それぞれ、楽曲群の質も高いと思います。（テイラーのギターが効果的なのかなあ）
