ドラマ「動物のお医者さん」の主題曲に、このアルバムの「朝陽の中で微笑んで」を諫山実生がしっとりと歌い上げている。実にいい歌いぶりだ。しかし原曲が魅力的ではないといくら上手くてもそうはいかない。

その点でこのアルバムは、魅力的なメロディーが私達の心を捉えて離さない曲がたくさん入っていると思う。中央フリーウェイはヒットした曲だが、私が一番好きな曲はひっそりとした佳曲ともいうべき「晩夏」である。詩とメロディの両方ともがいい。「ゆく夏に名残る暑さは夕焼けを吸って燃え立つ葉鶏頭」という心に響く夏の詩を感情を抑えながら歌い始め、エンディングも「藍色は群青に薄暮は紫に　ふるさとは深いしじまに輝きだす　輝きだす」という印象深い詩で歌い終わっている。
この歌は１９!７６年８月のＮＨＫ銀河テレビ小説「夏の故郷」の主題歌で歌われており、当時の私の心の中にいつまでも残っていた。

荒井由実が独身最後のアルバムとして発表したのがこの『１４番目の月』です。かの有名な『中央フリーウェイ』を収録。
中央高速自動車道を恋人とドライブでデートするならはずせない一枚だと思います（笑）
また「晩夏~ひとりの季節~」という曲はファンの間でも、人気のある隠れた名曲です。

夏の終わりの夕暮れ時のあの茜色の空を言葉の力でここまで繊細に描けるのはユーミンだけかも！？と思います。

いろいろなアルバムを昔から聴いてきたが、やはりこのアルバムに魅力を感じてしまうのは、このアルバムを作ったときのユーミンの心境がとても澄んでいたような感じがうかがえるからかもしれない。１曲目の「さざ波」からもそれは感じられる。秋の澄んだ空気、ボート、静かなさざ波。そしてユーミンの作詞能力は優れているけれど、このアルバムに関してはそれに加えて「詩」を感じることもできる。多くの人が指摘している「晩夏」の詞には、日本的な繊細な感覚のコトバがあふれており、さすが日本画を学んだ彼女だけあるというかんじ。アップテンポの曲も佳作が多く、何度もきいてしまうアルバムだ。
