有名な「卒業写真」「ルージュの伝言」収録のアルバムだが、アルバム全体に荒井由実時代の魅力が詰まっている。「雨のステイション」は、最初のワンフレーズだけでぐっと来てしまうほどの傑作。

僕はこの後ユーミンのレコードを買わなくなってしまった。３枚目まで買ったわけですね。今から考えると壮大なユーミンワールドのほんのイントロで手を引いてしまったのですが。意外と回りには同じような連中がかなりいる。いわば「谷町」的感覚でひいきにしていた若手が一本立ちして羽ばたいていった・・という気分です。これを聞いたときはいい感性してるって正直思ったものです。

1975年、ユーミン21歳の時に作成されたサード・アルバムです。
J-POPの音楽を牽引していたことが如実に理解できる斬新な「COBALT HOUR」に驚かされます。松任谷正隆のアレンジ、細野晴臣、林立夫、鈴木茂のビッグネームが並ぶティン.パン.アレーの演奏も軽快で、素晴らしいメンバーの力量が伺える演奏です。「J-POPの女王ユーミン」の面目躍如といったサウンドに満ちています。

「卒業写真」、「雨のスティション」は、後にハイ・ファイ・セットによってヒットしましたが、オリジナルのユーミン・サウンドの方がしっとりとした趣をたたえています。こめられたメッセージもリスナーにストレートに飛びこんできます。

「花紀行」、「航海日誌」は、若い女性特有のセンチメンタルで感傷的な心情を美しい旋律で彩っています。それぞれとてもしっとりとした佳曲です。このようなスローナンバーを昭和50年前後のJ-POPでは聴くことがなかったわけですから、彼女の音楽性がいかに突出して優れていたかの証明でもありましょう。

60年代を彷彿とするようなオールディーズ・サウンドもユーミンの特徴です。落着いた「何もきかないで」とポップな「ルージュの伝言」と対照的な曲想を持つナンバーが並びました。後者は宮崎駿作品『魔女の宅急便』に挿入歌として親しまれています。
