~息の長いアーティストには、必ずと言っていいほど１枚や２枚は
「変わり種アルバム」というのがあると思うんですが、これは
ユーミンの音楽史上、本当に衝撃的なアルバムだと思うんです。
実は僕はユーミンファンではないのですが、このアルバムだけは20年くらいもの間、
何千回も聞いています。カラッとした湿度の低い音楽がユーミンの音楽だと思ってい
~~ましたが、これだけは違います。やたらと湿度の高い、背景の暗い楽曲揃いです。
当時、どんな気持ちでこれを作ったのか、売れ行きはどうだったのか興味は尽きません。
本人に直接お聞きしたい気持ちでいっぱいです。（笑）~

このアルバムがでたとき自分は大学生だった。ブラウンズホテルというロンドンのホテルでこのアルバムジャケットは撮影されている。大英帝国とその植民地であったところで習慣となっているハイティーという午後のお茶のシーンもこのアルバムの中に写真がある。そして、このアルバムとともにユーミンは確か初めてのビデオも出した。

タイトル曲の「時のないホテル」は今聞いても新鮮だ。「回転ドアが少し回ると外の空気が流れこむけど、あわててボーイが止めにくる」。「雨の中のジョガ-」のせつなさ、最近でたQueen's Fellowでも歌われた「セシルの週末」。大人になってもあのころを忘れないそんなアルバムだ。

何故だか「セシルの週末」を聞く度に涙腺が緩んでしまうんですよ。
すごい詞です。映画が１本出来ちゃうんじゃないかと言うような…。
天才的です。脱帽。
