ユーミンが’78年に発表したアルバム『紅雀』から最新作の『ノーサイド』まで,オリジナル・アルバムでCD化されていなかった12点の総てが,やっとCD化されて出た。’80年12月に発表された『サーフ&スノウ』以前と,ミニ・アルバム『水の中のASIAへ』をはさんで,’81年11月発表の『昨晩お会いしましょう』以降とでは,ユーミンが想定している聴き手が大きく変わっているようだ。荒井由実時代と松任谷由実時代との間にある違いは,歌われている情景のリアリティーの有無だったが,ここではニューミュージックの女王から歌謡曲の女王への歩みが始まったといえるのではなかろうか。より広い幅の聴き手を対象としはじめたのが’81年にシングル「守ってあげたい」のヒットから,ユーミンのアルバム・セールスが飛躍的に伸びているのだから……。#半年に1作のペースでアルバムを発表してきたユーミンも,最新作『ノーサイド』以降はその間隔が長くなりそう。というのも,各作品ともにしっかりと水準を保っていること自体が,実は驚異的なことなのだ。ポップ・スター,ユーミンの歴史のすごさを思い知らされる一方で,これからに期待させる作品群を持っているのがユーミンなのだ。アルバムで味わうユーミンの楽しさの他に,コンサートの楽しさもある人なのである。

ハルジョオン・ヒメジョオンで描かれる夕暮れの風景が印象的。川向こうから迫る宵闇と紅く熟れていく夕陽の対比がたまらなくよいです。そして、周りがいつまでもそのままのように思えるなかで、変わっていく自分、鮮烈でありながらも思い出すそばから葬られていく過去、へと思いは巡ります。アルバム全体では「いま一人でいる自分」が主人公になっている作品が多く、曲によって何かから離れていったり、反対に何かを強く求めていたり、また何かを懐かしんでいたりしますけど、そうした点もあってどこか感傷的な雰囲気が強いですね。

…というのは、彼女はこのアルバムを発表するときに売れないと思っていたそうです、でも、このアルバムを良いと思ってくれる人はきっと本当に着いてきてくれるファンだと思ったというエピソードが残っています。
それぐらい渋いアルバムです。
でも、きっと松任谷由実のルーツはこのアルバムにあると思います。

私は、ユーミンの全てのLPを持っています。その私が、最初に買いなおそうと思ったCDがこれです。何の迷いもなくでした。アントニオ・カルロス・ジョビンに影響を受けた彼女の真骨頂のアルバムです。また、卓越した作詞の魅力、聴いているとビジュアルがわかりやすく瞼に浮かび上がります。絵画的情景が目前にせまる「ハルジョオン・ヒメジョオン」（吉川中英がカバーで歌ってたものも良かったですが・・・）、何でこんな詩が書けるの？って感じの「罪と罰」、異国情緒豊かな「地中海の感傷」、爽快な気分にしてくれる「紅雀」、どこか懐かしい「LAUNDRY-GATEの想い出」等々満点の内容です。
