RCが最高にカガヤいていた時期の傑作ライブアルバム。一曲目の「イン・ザ・ミッドナイトアワー」からはじけて、バンド、キヨシロー、観客が一体となって一気に盛り上がっていきます。忌野清志郎の、その歌いっぷりを聴きながら感じるのは、その作曲能力の高さとデリバリーの力強さです。曲も歌詞も永遠にみずみずしく、魂の底を揺さぶるように歌が清志郎のシャウトにのって、ドーンとぶつかってきます。

このアルバムから20年、その後も遍歴を続ける清志郎は、センスの良いトリックスターの趣きがあります。次から次へと面白いパートナーと面白いユニットを組んでは新しいことに挑戦していく彼のスタイルの原点がここにあるように思います。飽きっぽいだけかもしれませんが……。いずれにせよ、いろいろな人とコラボしながらも、自分のスタイルを崩さない一貫性が人を惹きつける魅力の源泉なのかと思います。

RCのベスト盤と言っても良いぐらいの強力な選曲もポイントです。ジャパニーズ・ロックの一つの到達点だと思います。

ＲＣの中から、一枚だけベストをあげるとすれば、ほとんどの人がラプソディを選ぶと思うが、僕はこれを選ぶ。ヒッピーに捧ぐのライブバージョンが素晴らしいからだ。
嘘ではない。これを聞いてほしい。

　アルバム「OK」からの選曲中心だった「KING OF LIVE」に比べ、新旧取りそろえ、未発表曲も入っている。
　清志郎の切なる説得で、メンバーの反対を押し切って演奏された「君はそのうち死ぬだろう」（歌詞は不掲載）等、当時の勢いを感じるアルバム。
　オープニングの「ミッド・ナイト・アワー」が最高。
