   J.ガイルズ・バンドはJ・ガイルズとピーター・ウルフを中心に1967年に結成されたバンドだ。ブラック・ミュージックの影響を色濃く打ち出した音楽性をもち、白人最高峰のブルースバンドと称賛されるなど、1969年のデビュー以降、発表するアルバムは常に高い評価を得てきた。
   本作は、それまでのテイストとは異なった、一般大衆にも受け入れ易い内容となっており、不満をもらすファンもいたが、、多くは本作を支持した。1982年には「墜ちた天使」が全米No.1を記録したほか、「フリーズ・フレイム」「悲しみのエンジェル」などもヒットした。（春野丸緒）

リズム＆ブルーズテイストだったバンドがサンクチャリーからポップ方向に軌道修正した流れの中にあるアルバム。商業的な成功と言う意味ではかなり売れたアルバム。

鍵盤のセスジャストマンが主導権を握ったアルバム。でもそんな状況にあってもピーターウルフは元気に歌っている。コマーシャルなプロダクションなんて関係なく。

ハードドライビングなロックがちょいとニューウエイブポップの味付けをした感じか。個人的にはマジックデイックのハーモニカが聴けるのでまる。出番は少なくなっているのだが。

ここでのピーターはいい味出している。ツアーで叩き上げたバンドなので、やはりベテランの味がにじみ出ているところがうれしい。

センターフォールドにおけるダルでルーズな雰囲気と突き抜けた明??さはやはり捨てがたい。ピーターはここでもさえている。洒脱な歌いまわしが最高。

シンセがいくら鳴っていてもピーターウルフが歌っていればおれには名盤だ。１０点中１０点。売れた曲は氷山の一角で。他にはドゥーワップだってやってる引き出しの多いやつらなのだ。叩き上げは強いということを証明したアルバム。芸人だな~~と感じるね。芸風の幅が広いひとたち。

Ｊガイルズ・バンド通算１２枚目、アメリカン・ロック・バンドの魅力が存分に詰まった１９８１年リリースのアルバム。７０年代をロックの時代とするなら８０年代はポップの時代と言えるだろう。７０年代Ｒ＆Ｂ、男のロックン・ロールというＪ・ガイルズ・バンドが８０年にポップ感覚を採り入れて、幅広いファン層を獲得した傑作アルバムである。

６人の不動のメンバー、大ベテランの実力バンド、ロックンロールに命を賭けた男達が、自らの感性で時代の潮流を感じ取り、創造された音楽が悪かろうはずはない。
アメリカン・ロックの大傑作！ロック・ファンにはお薦め！
