ウェットン、ジョブソン、ブラッフォード、ホールズワースというメンバーからなる私にとってはエイジア以上のスーパーグループです。当初はｇのいないＥＬＰ型トリオを志向したものの、ブラッフォードの強い奨めでホールズワースを加えた経緯があります。

サウンドは正統派ブリティッシュプログレですが、70年代後半の作品ということで、70年代前半のような大作やインタープレイの応酬はありませんが、楽曲の良さと抜群の演奏力で、非常に聴き応えのあるアルバムになっています。余談ですが、ＥＬＰ型トリオを志向したせいか、ホールズワースではなくジョブソンのプレイが目立っているのも特徴でしょうか。

４人の名前に全く負けていない内容の濃いアルバムになっていますので、プログレファンには是非聴!いて欲しい１枚です。

１９７８年発表のスーパーバンドＵ．Ｋ．のファーストにして名盤・・・プログレ/ジャズロックファンは必聴の１枚！！ジョンウェットン（ｂ）・アランホールズワース（ｇ）・ビルブルフォード（Ｄｒ）・エディジョブソン（ｋｅｙ／Ｖｌｎ)によるテンション高いサウンドが堪能出来ます！！１曲目「インザデッドオブナイト」のかっこよさ、「アラスカ」から「タイムトゥキル」の流れの素晴らしさ、大好きです。アランとビルはＢＲＵＦＯＲＤ結成の為、このアルバムで脱退しているので貴重です！！

パンクの台頭など、混迷を増すブリティッシュ・ロック界を憂い集うたスーパースター４人によるバンドが『ＵＫ』である。４人の個人的志向は異なっていたものの、ここは大同団結した観がある。ジョン・ウェットンのVoが出すぎることなくバンド・サウンドの“One of them”に納まっており、当時まだ無名だったアラン・ホールズワースのギターが静かに、しかし強烈に主張をしていて、耳を奪われる。またエディ・ジョブソンの存在が大事な部分を担っており、心憎い組み立てだ。アルバム自体、楽曲・構成とも申し分なく、さすが大物による1stアルバムであったが、次作から4人の志向が次第に浮き出でしまい、ジョンとエディがポップロックの“エイジア”へ、アランとビルがジャズ的な“ブラッフォード”へ袂を分かつ。
