   初の2枚組アルバムである。なにも印刷されていない白無地のジャケットから、俗に「ホワイト・アルバム」と呼ばれている。前作、前々作のカラフルさからうって変わったこのシンプルさは、中身にも反映されている。ほとんどの収録曲が凝った録音技巧を排しており、ライヴ演奏も十分可能なスタイルで演奏されている。

アビーロードやサージャントペッパーズよりも繰り返し聴いていたなぁ。だって飽きなかったんだよ。一つの曲に飽きる頃には別の曲が好きになる。とにかく色々なジャンルが片寄りなく網羅されている。例の#9も好きだったし。昔、雑誌のコラムに、「宇宙人に、ロックという音楽を説明するなら、このアルバムを聞かせるのが手っ取り早い……」というようなことが書かれていた。同感だ。願わくば、5・1サラウンド版にリミックスしてほしい。#9なんかをそれで聞いたら面白そうじゃないか。

音楽がまったく古くなっていかない。時の流れを超越するとはどういうことかを実践してくれている1枚。300年後の人が聴いてもそう思うだろう。これが1968年にリリースされたことなどどうでもよくなってしまうし、そのこと自体が不思議な気がする。

時々聴きたくなるし、実際に最もよく聴く1枚（『HELP』も）。ジャケットから、ホワイトアルバムという言い方をされるが、アルバムタイトルは「THE BEATLES」。その一語にすべてが込められている。

　このアルバム自体のレビューの前に、While my guiter gently weepsのギターを、ジョージがクラプトンに
譲ったのはなぜか・・・ということを少し考えていた。当時、ジョージには、弾けなかったという意見もあったが。
　最近、何回目かの「ジョージ追悼コンサート」を見ていて、ふと思ったのだが、この曲は、ジョージがクラプトンに書いた
曲なのではないかと思えるようになった。当時、二人で、Ｂａｄｇｅという曲も作っているし。

　このアルバムの評価は、まとまりがない、コンセプト不鮮明・・・水増しの二枚組みという評価もあるが、この時点で、
各自の作った曲を持ち寄って肩の力を抜いてやってみようよ、と考え玉石混交のシングル版を一まとめに
聴けるというくらいの感じで捉えれば、そんなに、悪くはないと思う。
もっとも、買った当時は、僕も「損した」と思ったものではあるが。
