アップテンポのメタルサウンド、そしてキーボードとギターの華麗なるサウンドが見事に調和した４作目。
特にスルー・ザ・ルッキング・グラス(パート1,2,3)は彼らの特徴といえる、ストーリーに乗っ取ったメロディが駆け巡る大作。バンドの演奏力、作曲能力を世に知らしめた１枚。マイケルロメオのギターワークもさすが！

アメリカ東海岸ニュージャージー出身の5人組の４作目。プログッレッシヴな展開を持つメロディアスな楽曲に、マイケル・ロメオのネオ・クラシカルスタイルのギター・プレイ、マイケル・ピネーラの流麗なキーボード・プレイ、ラッセル・アレンのパワフルなヴォーカルが乗る。楽曲の質、プレイヤー個々の技量、ともに非常に高い次元にある。イントロのギター・フレーズが耳に残る1、疾走感溢れる4、サビのメロディーが良い6などが好印象。これらのコンパクトな楽曲は聴き易いのだが、１０分を越える長尺曲5などは正直、辛かった。最近の彼等の作品に収録されている楽曲は、このような長尺の物が多いが、本作で聴けるようなコンパクトでキャッチーな楽曲が聴きたい。

前作「DIVINE　WINGS　OF　TRAGEDY」で株をさらにあげたアメリカ産様式美バンドの４ｔｈフル。

今作では、ドラマーがジェイソン・ルロから、セッション・ドラマーのトム・ウォーリングにチェンジしているが、こちらもテクニカルな実力派で特にマイナスな要素は無し。

つまり、今作も、テクニカルなメンバーによるテクニカルな演奏が楽しめるヘヴィ・メタル作品に仕上がっている。
前作収録の名曲“OUT　OF　THE　ASHES”ほど殺傷力のあるナンバーは見当たらないものの、相変わらずアメリカ産とは思えない優れたメロディ・センスを感じさせる楽曲が並んでおり、疾走曲＃１“Smoke　And　Mirrors”やベートーヴェンの「悲愴」をモチーフにしたインスト＃３“Sonata”からドラム・フィルで一気になだれ込む＃４“In　The　Dragon's　Den”、和の旋律を大胆にも取り込んだバラード＃８“Lady　Of　The　Snow”など、日本人好みの佳曲はきちんと押さえられていると言えよう。

ただ、大曲＃５“Through　The　Looking　Glass”は正直、冗長な感は否めない。（スゴイんだけどね･･･＾＾；）

ややプログレッシヴながらも、ありがちな自己陶酔に陥らず、叙情味あるメロディを聴かせてくれる貴重な存在。あとはもうちょいキャッチーになってくると人気も更に上がってくるのではないだろうか？

ギターも凄腕なんで、メロディ派はもとより、テクニック派もそれなりに楽しめるアルバムなんじゃないかな。
彫刻系のジャケに惹かれたかたもゼヒ一度お試しアレ！（笑
