シンセ・ギターの導入とエイドリアンが提供した２曲がポップ過ぎるとしていわれのない非難を浴びる隠れた傑作。

至高の名曲「サムホエア・イン・タイム」はメイデンのベスト５に入ってもおかしくない、展開力、スピード感、スケール、パワーに満ち溢れているのになぜか取り上げられることが少ない。英国文学に材を取る「長距離ランナーの孤独」はドラマチックなメイデンらしいプログレ色溢れる佳作。デイブ・マーレイのペンによる「デジャ・ブー」は後の「ジューダス・マイガイド」に繋がる名曲。「ウィステッド・イヤーズ」はポップだが、ブリティッシュ・ロック独特の湿り気も併せ持つ名曲。
これほど英国色の強いアルバムなのに、なぜかアメリカ向け等というでたらめなレッテルを貼られてしまったのか？
いまだになぞが残るアルバム。

｢POWERSLAVE｣に伴う大規模なツアーが話題を呼び、まさしく絶頂にあったIRON MAIDENが'86年にリリースした6枚目。

「ブルース・ディッキンソンはMAIDENには合わない｣と言い張るお茶目さんは、本作のギター・シンセ導入を攻撃材料に
変えたがこのアルバムを最後にほぼ絶滅。
まさしくIRON MAIDENの何者でもない楽曲を最高の形で表現しきった素晴らしいアルバムである。

これだけ安定して最高級のアルバムを出してくる彼らの資質に改めて感心してしまうし、エイドリアン・スミス作の
"Wasted years"やデイヴ・マーレイ作の"Deja-vu"もアルバムの中でなくてはならないポジションを占めている。

ブルース加入後、'80年代にリリースされた5作はいずれも名盤だが、このアルバムも例外ではない。

前作「LIVE AFTER　DEATH」は５ｔｈアルバムまでの集大成だったのでこのアルバムに対する周囲の注目度は尋常ではなかったはずだ。
しかし、新たにギターシンセを導入し、新しい活路を見いだしたアルバムである。
長年ライヴでもセットリストに載せていた２、４。そしてシングルカットされた６、デイヴ作曲の７、スティーブハリス独自の世界観である８。

一見地味なアルバムのように感じるが実は佳曲、秀曲が多い。
