ビートルズについては、有名すぎて逆に知られていないことが多いと思います。アルバムについても、プレスリーのように何十枚もあると思われていることがありますが、公式にはこのボックスの16枚(アルバム14枚とシングル集2枚)と、最近編纂された「アンソロジー」シリーズ(3セット6枚)ですべてです。

日本でもアルバムがきちんとした形で出回ったのは70年代後半で、いきなりこのボックスですべてを手にし、また書籍「アンソロジー」という決定版もある今の人たちは超羨ましいです。
とにかく、All You Need is This! です。

いうまでもありませんが、ビートルズは最高です。

単品で買うのと何が違うかといったら値段が少し安くなる。
箱がついてる。
曲の簡単な説明に何枚かの写真が載せてある６０ページぐらい日本語、英語の本が一冊ずつあります。

このセットは約20年前のリマスター（一部リミックス）であり、もはや時代遅れな音であることは否めません。これからビートルズを買い揃えようと思っている方は、もう少し待った方がいいでしょう。2007年の「サージェント・ペパー」40周年（ＣＤ化20周年でもある）に向けて、ビートルズ全作品の再リリース（5.1chリミックスのSACD化？）がありそうなのです。最近の「キャピトル・ボックス」のようにステレオ／モノの２in１になる可能性もあります。ついでに言えば、「キャピトル・ボックス」はヘビー・コレクター以外のノーマルなファンは手を出さない方がいいと思います。ミックス違いがあるとは言っても、所詮は勝手に（テキトーに）作られた過去の遺物でしかありませんから。

（追記：2009年9月9日、全アルバムのリマスター盤が一気に全世界同時発売されることとなりました。初期の４枚はステレオ版で、モノ・ヴァージョンは別売りボックスにまとめてリリース。この旧ボックスは役目終了といったところですが、新たなリマスターの出来如何では逆に貴重になるかもしれません。）
