ブリットポップ混乱の終焉後に登場した『トレインスポッティング』は、マストアイテムのポスターとサントラ、そしてやせこけたヘロインアディクトの魅力によって、ユースカルチャーの精神に自らの場所を開拓した。骨ばった容姿は流行ったかと思うとすたれ、ポスターは随分色あせてしまったが、サウンドトラックだけは、今も若者の反抗と共鳴している。このサントラは、1990年代中期の単なる時代ものではない。麻薬の禁断症状の発作についてのルー・リードの「perfect Day」や、さりげないデカダンスを歌うイギー・ポップの「Nightclubbing」が対抗するのは、より最近の惰性への賛歌たちだ。ブラーの「Sing」、アンダーワールドのユビキタスな快楽主義賛歌「Born Slippy」の轟音も、一歩も譲らない。耳障りなのはほんの数曲だけだ。スリーパーによるブロンディーの「Atomic」のカヴァーはまったく無意味だし、エラスティカの「2:1」はただの陳腐なブリットポップだ。でも君たち、それがドラッグというもので、いい思いだけをするわけにはいかないんだよ。（Louis Pattison, Amazon.co.uk）
