   アール・クルーの登場は新鮮だった。エレクトリック・ギター全盛の時代に、アコースティック・ギターをピックではなく指で弾くのがカッコよかった。しかも抜群のテクニシャン。
   加えてクルーの場合、デイヴ・グルーシンとの出合いが幸運だった。というのも、ジョージ・ベンソンのセカンド・ギタリストだったクルーが一躍人気ギタリストになった背景には、グルーシンの存在が大きかったからだ。75年のデビュー作『アール・クルー』、翌年の『リヴィング・インサイド・ユア・ラヴ』、そして77年の本作、これらはすべてグルーシンのプロデュース。華麗なグルーシン・サウンドと生ギターの絶妙な組み合わせ。それが人気の秘密であり、どちらか一方が欠けてもダメなのである。

デイブ・グル-シンのアレンジはやはり凄いですね。特にストリングスのアレンジは響きが今聴いても、ぱっと聴けばすぐ彼のものだと分かる奥行きがあって、スタイリッシュな響きが素晴らしいです。前作、"リビング・インサイド・ユア・ラブ"も素敵でしたが、こちらはさらにアール・クルーのソロパートが増えて、ギターが前に出た分、音楽に説得力が出ています。セカンド・ギターにリー・リトナーが入っているところがセンス良くていいね。スティーブ・ガッドとハーヴィー・メイソン両方使うところが贅沢。ジェームス・テイラーの"遠い昔"。これを聴いてはじめてアール・クルーの存在を知りました。凄い名曲だし、名演ですね。"DR.マクンバ"かっこいいです。"DANCE WITH ME"、あまりにも素敵なメロディ。大好きです。しかし、"カボ・フリオ"はほんとにデイブ・グルーシン度が高くて、聴いているだけで嬉しい。アール・クルーのギターも歌っているし。ベースはアンソニーもいいけど、ルイス・ジョンソンが流石に黒くてファンキー。楽しいです！

２０年ぶりにアール・クルーを聞きました。大学生だった頃が一挙によみがえり、懐かしさでいっぱい。この頃、「ダンス・ウィズ・ミー」がＴＶなどのバックミュージックで流れてますが、良い音楽は、いつ聞いても新鮮！我が息子、娘に２，３年後に聞かせたい１曲です。

フュージョンの名盤なのは間違いないけど、今聞くとどうしてもイージー・リスニングになってしまうでしょう。楽器演奏のテクニックやテンションを売りにしていないこの素晴らしくスムースな内容は、本当にBGM扱いになりがち。
でもそういう風に聞いても良いと思います。
このジャンルはむしろ楽器のテクとかで評価されがちなので、この心地よさは貴重です。

で、実はこのアコギはウルトラ・テクなんですがそこに目を行かせないのが凄い。
「Dance with me」のイントロから洒落た感じが特に好きで、オリジナルのオーリアンズの演奏よりこっちの方がメロディが生きてるのでは。
　全体にはちょっとカリブっぽいムードの明るい音楽。昼のBGMにどうぞ。
