《ヘッドロング》は《イニュエンドゥ》に収録されているからもちろん知っていた。無我夢中で走り続けてきたクイーン!! カップリングの2曲を聴いたときは、胸がしめつけられるような気がした。 《マッド・ザ・スワイン》は、フレディの歌声から考えると《戦慄の女王》あたりの曲で、アルバム収録からあえて外したのかと思う(短かくて、メッセージが直接的過ぎる。表現を神秘的な事柄に変えた、別の曲が収録されている) フレディの声が希望に満ちて自信にあふれていて、とても美しく、これからの自分達の進む成功への道を、後から支えている、絶対的な存在への賛辞の曲のような気がする。 フレディの未来なんて、当時は誰も思いあたらなかっただろう。 3曲目の《ロスト・オポチュニティ》は、言葉通り、『もう機会はない』だろう。 歌っている時のブライアンは、クイーンとしてツアーに出かける、クイーンとして大観衆に呼びかける、クイーンに答えがかえってくる、それが無くなる日がいつかはやって来ることに、気がついたような不安げな声て歌っている。 《ミラクル》を手にしたとき、誰もがふと思ったであろう事。 『クイーンが昔を振り返りはじめた、なぜ?』 《イニュエンドゥ》を聴いた時には『何かとお別れする決心でもしたの?』 しばらくして、フレディがローラーコースターに乗って、過去へと行ってしまった。 その後で手に入れた、この《ヘッドロング》ジャケットを見ても、曲を聴いても悲しくて仕方ない。
