地味で渋い仕上がりなので、ペトルチアーニ入門には向かないかもしれない。でも、これぞトリオのコラボレーションではないかと思わされるパフォーマンス。私は6曲目の「ヘジーナ」が大好きですね。ベースラインに痺れました。渋いんだけど何度も聴き返したくなるCD。

ある意味非常に地味なアルバムだが、それだけに良さがピンと来ると何度でも聴き返してしまう、そんな作品です。
じっくり聴いてみると彼の音楽に漂う独特のユーモア、ロマンティシズム、そして時折爆発するある種猥雑な狂気、すでにこの頃には種蒔きは終わって芽が育ち始めていたんだなあ、と分かるんですね。

名手パレ・ダニエルソン、エリオット・ジグムンドのサポートもペトちゃんの音楽にしっかり密着していて、「トリオの」演奏がしっかり聞こえて来ます。
スタンダードにおける若さゆえの爆発プレイにどうしても耳が行きがちになってしまいますが、やっぱり彼の本領は作曲。

ブルージーなフレーズを逆手に取ったおフランスの薫り漂う「フェイスィズ・フェイス」、ブラジル音楽のゴッドマザーエリス・ヘジーナに捧げた「ヘジーナ」、特に後者のベースラインと青空を仰ぎ見るような開放感溢れるメロディは素晴らしいですよ。

夜の銀座で見かけた超美人よりも、毎日家に帰れば何となく可愛く思えちゃう奥さんがやっぱりいいや、と、そういう感じのアルバムだと思います。

ソニー・ロリンズ、ビル・エヴァンスなど、名だたる傑作群を生んだ「ヴィレッジ・ヴァンガード」で、ミシェル・ペトルチアーニのトリオがコンサートを行い、その伝説の系譜に名を連ねたのが84年。
それから１年あまりが経って、同じメンバーで録音したスタジオ作がこちら。ブルーノートですな。
前述『ライヴ・アット・ザ・ヴィレッジ・ヴァンガード』のハード・ドライヴィンな迫力には届いていないか、と一聴して思われる向きもあるかも知れませんが――。
然し実は、より腰が座り、ロマンティック・グルーヴとでもいうべきものが縦横に走りまくるミシェルのネクスト・ステージを堪能できる一枚、だと思います。
音は丸みを帯び、早くも円熟味というか貫禄のようなものも感じさせ（24歳）、実に一音一音が心ゆくまで歌っている名盤。
腕力に否応なしに引っ張られる圧倒感から、陶酔の心地良さへと――。
ミシェル・ペトルチアーニ作品の中でも、いつの間にか多くのファンが愛着を持つようになるアルバム、という気がします。
お薦め。
