すでに他のレビューアーも絶賛しているが、この演奏は仰天の名演奏だ。テンシュテットは他にこの曲のスタジオ録音もあるが、こちらのライブのほうが断然いい。スタジオ録音がどちらかというと、悪くはないが、どこにでもある演奏という気がするが、ライブ盤は、この曲にこめられた情念や情熱が、細部まで配慮の行き届いた彫りの深い表情によって表現されている。テンポは遅めだが、自由に動く。どこでも僕には理想的なテンポ設定である。例えば、第一楽章の出だしのテンポ観もよい。センチメンタルにならず、峻厳で、しかも低弦の迫力たっぷりである。第二主題（「アルマのテーマ」）は、直前にぐっとテンポを起こし、たっぷり急がずに奏される。また展開部の静かな部分（ここにこの楽章のヤマが置かれているように思われるが）もシュールな雰囲気を濃厚に出す。その後突如元のテンポに戻る部分も、決して唐突ではない。第二楽章は、12分過ぎに驚きの表現がある。これがその後に出てくるバイオリンのスタッカートの静かなテーマとうまく呼応している。

書き出すときりがない。全ての表情に「魂」がこもっている。かといってバーンスタインのような主観性の強さは感じさせない。オーケストラは技術的な面はさておき、この濃厚な音楽に没入し、さぞ精神的なエネルギーを要する演奏会だっただろう。この演奏会が、このようなすばらしい録音で残されたことは幸いといわなけらばならない。

マーラーの演奏には幾つかアプローチがあると思うんですが、
マーラーの狂気とか情念を詰め込んだタイプの演奏(と呼ばれるモノ)
の中ではベストに挙げられる演奏です。

そして、個人的にはこのマーラーを聞くと他の「悲劇的」が
全然悲劇的に聞こえない困った代物でもあります。
皆さんも困ってみませんか？

5.0 out of 5 stars まさに「悲劇的」！, 2003/9/28
すごいです。その一言で済ませて良いのかとも思うが、とにかく、テンシュテットの悲劇的はすごい。ほんとに悲劇を見ているかのようだ。第一楽章の低弦楽器の図太さ、第二楽章の重々しさ、そして、第四楽章の荘厳な響きには、ただただ絶句。特に第四楽章。ハンマーの音が不気味で、鋭すぎる。無敵のハンマー。このハンマーだと、さすがの英雄も倒れるわな、と思ってしまう、圧倒の衝撃音です。その後もズッシズッシと音楽が展開され、第二展開部のテンポの遅さには「ハッ？」と思わされました。ちなみに、3回目のハンマーはカットされています。
とにかく凄かったので聴いてみて下さい。
