　その声は４月の陽ざしにまぶしげな、青年の柔らかなうなじである。人生の哀しみはまだ知らないが、それを予感することのできる柔軟な感受性である。

その声は潔癖な青年の手首の、薄青い静脈の色である。かつてのパブリックスクールの、青年という言葉を肯定的にとらえたときの一切である。

その声は僧院の窓わくに遊ぶ、木漏れ日の光である。光であると同時に影でもある。ボストリッジの声の魅力を語ろうとすれば、どうしてもこんなふうに文学的にならざるをえない。

朗々と歌いあげるベルカントのテノールではない。ドイツリートの堅牢で陰鬱なロマンチシズムでもない。かといってカウンター・テノールの中性的な味わいともちがう。

歌手になる前はケンブリッジとオクスフォードで歴史と哲学を学んだというが、この経歴はこの声にいかにもふさわしい。明るく高貴で、傷つきやすく透明。

日本人の歌手でこんな声を聞いたことがない。そういう声がシューベルトを歌うのだから、ただ聞き惣れるのみ。「野ばら」をさらりと歌っているが、この声の「清楚さ」に、女性歌手は嫉妬するにちがいない。

ドイツ語がまったくわからなくても、甘く切ない物語をシューベルトの美しい旋律のなかに（勝手に）思い描くことができる。この声によってシューベルトを見直しました。どうぞ、同じような体験を。

とにかく美しい声で、聴いていて気持ちが良い。
透き通るような崇高ささえ感じる素晴らしい声は唯一無二のものでしょう。
さらに彼の音楽性や人柄が音楽に一層の輝きを与えています。

また、伴奏も良いです。

ボストリッジの歌う《美しい水車屋の娘》《冬の旅》と聞いてきて、
彼が歌う、他のシューベルト歌曲を聴いてみたくなった。

言葉を丁寧に歌い、解釈を隅々にまで行き渡らせ、
ビブラートやポルタメントまでコントロールする演奏は、
これまでの印象と違わない。

個人的には、「楽に寄す」や「連祷」のような、
しみじみとした歌の方がこの人の声と歌い方にあっていると思う。
「幸福」や「のばら」も軽くなり過ぎず、重苦しくならず、
１つのスタイルになっていると思う。

ピアノも、ボストリッジと同じく、
一つ一つの音を大切に奏でる。

音楽に取り組むことの、
厳しさと素晴らしさをも味わわせてくれる秀盤。
