いわずとしれたテレビドラマ「東京ラブストーリー」のサントラだが、洒落た雰囲気の「Zelda」などは単に曲としても楽しめる。また、「リカのテーマ」は最近ビールのCMで再登場。

このドラマは当時としてはかなり音楽にお金をかけたときく。サントラなので色々な曲が入っており、アルバムとしてみるとやや散漫な感じがするのは否めないが、単にドラマのサントラで片付けてしまうにはもったいない一枚。

ＴＶで大ヒットしたお陰で、日向敏文の名が有名になりました。この番組では何と言っても小田和正の「ラブストーリーは突然に」が有名ですが、ここに収められた曲には、ＴＶでＢＧＭとしては勿体ないような美しく、躍動的なメロディが収められています。もう１５年前の作品ですが、曲を聴いただけでＴＶのシーンが蘇ります。それ程映像にマッチする曲を製作できたのは、彼自身、絵画や写真などに造詣が深かったからなのです。１２、１３曲目を続けて聴くと、最終回のリカとカンチの別れ（四国でしたよね）のシーンが目に浮かび、女性ならずとも涙ものです。しかし、と敢えてここで言っておきたいのは、日向敏文の実力はこんなものではないのです。おそらく、ＴＶ放送に間に合わせるよう、ＴＶ局からせっつかれたのではないでしょうか？彼のオリジナルアルバムを聴くと、音の密度の濃さに驚くはずです。このサントラは、短時間に仕上げるために、もっと練り上げたい曲を完成させる途中ではないか？と思わせるような、スカスカな音に聞こえる曲があります。或いは、ＴＶという、現在ではステレオ放送が普通になる前だったため、敢えてモノラル放送に耐えられるように、わざと音密度を低くしたのではないでしょうか？もし、彼がＴＶという枠を外して再録音すれば、凄い作品になったのでは？と感じます。

数多くのテレビドラマのサントラや
KOKIAのプロデューサーとして有名な日向敏文。
本作は氏のメジャーデビュー作と云えよう。

ヨーロッパの芳醇な香り漂う、
氏のオリジナルアルバムとは違い、
この都会的でクールなサウンドは
「トレンディ」ドラマのBGMとして
注目度は高かったように思う。

ビールのCMに復活すると、当時のことを
つい思い出してしまうのは私だけではあるまい。
