   芥川賞作家としてはじめて名を成したかに見える町田康＝町田町蔵、1981年のこのINU唯一のアルバム以来、実はその根本は不変だ。この作品はいわゆる“パンク”じゃない。ジョニー・ロットンの痙攣（けいれん）歌唱にこそ影響は受けている。しかし、この段階でINUは、欧米のニューウェイヴ勢より高度なテクニックとポップですらある楽曲で、ロック文脈として明文化される以前のごくパーソナル（＝普遍的ということだが）な覚醒した諦観や混沌を描き切る。逆さに振っても血の一滴すら出ないほどの容赦なさで。また町田の存在感に隠れがちだが、ギター北田昌宏のジャンルを越境した演奏や構成力は、その後の80年代のP.I.Lやトーキング・ヘッズ、もっと言えばテクノにすら先んじている。（石角友香）

「イヌ」という実に変わった名前のこのグループは大阪出身のパンク・ロック・グループ。現在は解散しているが,リーダーの町田町蔵はその後も活動を続けており,このアルバムは彼らの唯一のアルバムとして81年3月に発売された。攻撃的な詞が印象的。

バンドは伝説のバンド、アルバムは８０年代のインディシーンを代表するアルバムの一つ…とよく言われるが、その音楽性は、当時活動していた「非常階段」に代表されるアルケミー勢、「有頂天」に代表されるナゴム勢の飛び具合に比べると、きわめてシンプルでオーソドックスなロックである。

にもかかわらず、このアルバムがシーンを代表する一枚と呼ばれるのは、やはり、町田町蔵のジョン・ライドンの影響を受けたボーカルスタイル、その独特の言語感覚（作家にﾈってより磨きがかかった）と多少とぼけたキャラクター、そして、彼の鋭い眼差しを大写しにしたアルバムジャケットである。

当時このアルバム（当然レコード）を見たときのインパクトは強烈だった。フリクションの「軋轢」などとともに８０年代インディシーンのヒリヒリした空気を見事に切り取った傑作である。デザインは原耕一。彼は、８０年代のサザンのアルバムジャケット（例えばＫａｍａｋｕｒａ）を手掛けたアートディレクターである。

発表当時のインパクトはないが、今聞いても決して古くはない。いいアルバムである。だから、３０年近く経ってオヤジになった私が、ＣＤを買って今でも繰り返し聴いているのかもしれない。ＣＤになっても音の悪さは変わらないが、当時の雰囲気を知るためにはこれで良い。

高校の頃無難なJPOPばっか聴いていた僕は知人に薦められてこのアルバムを聴いてみた。衝撃だった。
恋と青臭い正義感をまとった歌に慣れきっていた僕は町田の激情が迸る素っ裸な歌にノックアウトされてしまった。以来僕はずっと町田のファンだ。ＣＤや著書も見つければ即買っていた。
10代でデビューしてパンク歌手として名を残し後に作家デビュー。芥川賞までもぎ取ってしまった。でも彼の作品にはこのINUの頃から変わらないパンク魂がずっとありそれが僕を惹きつけて止まない。
このアルバムは今から日本語ロックのバンドをやりたい！という人達にぜひ聴いて貰いたい。

曖昧な欲望しか持てず
曖昧な欲望を持て余し
いつもお前はＴＶに釘付け
疲れ果ててもうやめられない

ROCKがオリコンと対極に位置していた当時
ロンドンやＮＹに媚びない、日本のオリジナル・パンクがINUでした。
町田町蔵は「恐るべき10代」と雑誌に取り上げられていましたが
アルバムに散りばめられた詞には、未だに社会を斬るパワーがあります。
やはり恐るべし。

ROCKがBGMになって久しい現在、
日常へ埋没しそうな心を引き止めてくれます。
