2021年、世界は謎の黒震病が蔓延し、全てはインターネットで接続されています。脳に情報を隠して密輸するジョニーは、いつもと雰囲気の違う客に、能力を超える膨大な情報を託されたため、巨大企業お抱えのヤクザに終われる羽目になります。

サイバーパンクの祖、ウィリアム・ギブスンの『運び屋ジョニー』が原作だけあって、脳をバージョンアップしてストレージとして使い「情報密輸」に使ったり、ハイテクが原因の難病、多国籍企業と日本ヤクザの癒着など、SFとして設定が抜群にいいと思いました。

また、運び屋キアヌ・リーブス、殺人サイボーグ牧師ドルフ・ラングレン、ヤクザ幹部たけしとキャストも良く、ストーリーにマッチしていると感じます。
ただ、そのキャラクターの活かし方が甘く、魅力が出ていません。アクションや特撮もメリハリがないのも残念なところ。

それにしても、当時容量320GBごときで慌ててしまうあたり、時代を感じますね。2021年だったら、320TBでも楽々かも…。

ダークスーツを着て、自分の頭の中を情報記憶装置に情報の運び屋をするキアヌ・リーブス。やくざの大物にビートたけし。テクノロジーは近未来、世の中は荒れ果てた「巣窟」状態、というのを対比させながら格好イイ仕上がりになっています。終盤に出てくる、対抗勢力にローテクで戦う集団の一番の武器が、すごい能力をもったイルカ、というのも見所です。
