オリジナルは昔やたらＴＶで放映されてた記憶がある「ＳＦ人喰いアメーバの恐怖」ですねぇ。
後から考えるとスティーブ・マックィーンが主演だったわけで驚きますが、幼心にはどす黒く赤いゼリーみたいな「人喰いアメーバ」（笑）がヌロヌロとボウリング場なんかに現れてパニックに陥った人々が右往左往する様子にワクワクしたものです。
で、本作は１９８８年にそれをリメイクしたもの。もう１７年も経ってしまいました。
監督･脚本のチャック･ラッセルは本作以降「マスク」や「イレイザー」と言った大作に起用された訳で、言わば出世作ですね。
共同脚本のフランク・ダラボンは「ショーシャンクの空に」の監督でもあります。
お話は基本的にオリジナル通り。ある夜、空から隕石らしき物体が地上に落ちて来てそこから這い出てきた不定形の「物体」によって田舎町が阿鼻叫喚の渦に叩き込まれるという物語です。主人公が町のはみ出し者ってところも同じ。
もちろん違う点もあります。オリジナルではどす黒かったアメーバが本作ではピンクです（笑）。
実は「物体」の正体にも新たな解釈がなされておりますし、女の子がタフで逞しい辺りには「エイリアン２」以降の作品らしさが出ております。
８８年製作と言うのがポイントですね。
つまりＣＧ映像が幅を利かせる以前なわけです。
アイデアを駆使して作り上げた特殊メークやオリジナルとは雲泥の差がある「物体」の動きはスピーディーでＢ級映画の楽しさに満ちております。
全体のテンポも良くサクサクと見ることができます。

これは数あるリメイク作の中でも納得の行く一本だと思います。

故スティブマクイ-ンが　初めて出演した作品で　　当時は　モノクロでしたが　
パラシユ-トを使用して　未知の物体が大きく膨らませて恐怖感を
あおっていましたが　なにせ　大きくなるのが　遅いし　鈍いので　それほど
怖いとは　思いませんでしたが　この作品はそれの　リメイク版です　その物語を踏襲していますが　最近のCGの発展で　未知の物体のスピ-ドは　早くなっていて
恐怖が　一段と　大きく早くなりました　チンピラ役のスティ-ブマクイ-ンも　みんなの嫌われ者　しかし　それが　町のみんなを　救う
ヒ-ロ-になって行きます　次から次へと　犠牲者があふれ　みんな　未知の物体に飲み込まれていきます　足の遅い人間はひとたまりもありません　しかし　その未知の物体の正体は　実は　う-んこれを明かすと
面白みが半減します　驚きと驚愕の一語につきます　なんで　この作品がDVD化　されないのか　不思議です　へたな　恐怖もの映画作品を
はるかに　上回るのに　とんでもないところから　その未知の物体は現れます　本当だったら　そら　恐ろしいです
