「だったら、あたしが死ねばいいと思うの！」

シャム双生児のシュラとマリアは、一卵性であるのに外見も中身もちがう。
美しくて、誰からも愛される、赤ん坊のようなマリア。
かしこくて、みにくい、孤独なシュラ。
ある日、医者はふたりの両親に、ふたりを切り離してどちらか片方の命を救うように宣告する･･･。

立ち聞きしたシュラが、おなじく聞いていた家庭教師に向かって叫ぶ声を忘れられません。

萩尾望都の原作を、野田秀樹が戯曲化、演出・出演。
高校生の時にビデオで見て、大感動した作品です。
その後まもなく、夢の遊眠社は「ゼンダ城の虜」を解散公演としました。私は、まじめな受験生
だったにもかかわらず、当日券のために寒い冬の夜を近鉄劇場の前で明かしました。

現在、野田秀樹氏は「NODA MAP」で活躍されていますが、
「夢の遊眠社」は、あとにもさきにもただ一回の「チケットのために徹夜」という体験をさせた、
高校生の私にとってとくべつな劇団でした。ぜひ見てみて下さい。

元来演劇というものはその臨場感に負う所が大きく、映像にしにくい芸術と言われてきました。また実際に多くの劇団の多くの作品が映像化されてその過程で感動がそぎ落とされた結果、駄作の烙印を押されてきました。そんな中で、夢の遊眠社の「半神」は、感動を損なうことなく映像化に成功した稀有な作品です。

　心臓だけを共有した結合体児のシュラとマリアは、自分の不幸に気づかないように世界と隔離された生活を送っている。そんな中で彼女たちの元に一人の数学者が家庭教師として招聘され、双子に隔離された環境のままで世間を垣間見せるという依頼を受ける。そこで双子は、誰もが味わうがけっして自身は味わうことの出来ない孤独というものの存在を知り、それを夢想する。
　そして彼女たちが成長し、たった一つしかない心臓が二人を支えきれなくなったとき、彼女たちの両親は結合体児の離断手術を決心するが、そこには２つの難問が隠されていた。どちらの子供を生かすのか、そしてその決断は誰がするのか。

　これらの問題に誰もが向かい合おうとしない中で、なんとかして双子を両方とも救うことが出来るのではないか、そう考えた家庭教師は双子とともに世界の果てへと出向き、双子を二人とも助けるべく彼女たちが背負った運命と対峙する。

　涙なくしては観ることのできない感動の名作。☆５つ。

　ちなみに、昔筑紫哲也氏は野田秀樹氏を評するときに、桑田圭祐を引き合いに出していたが、本当に失礼な話だと思う。もちろん野田氏にですよ。
