5.0 out of 5 stars 本人も「最も好きだ」というアルバム。傑作。, 2002/8/26
Billyの作品はどれも素晴らしいが、『The Stranger』のようにブルーにならず、『52'nd Street』のようにクールすぎず、『Glass Houses』のようにカッコ良すぎず、『Songs In The Attic』のように過去を振り返らず、『The Nylon Curtain』のように難しく考えすぎない本作は、Billyの最高傑作とも言える充実した内容。

このアルバムにはNYの様々な場面と、そこで生活する人々の様々な人間模様が描かれる。彼らに向けられたBillyの眼差しが優しく感動的だ。
全ての曲が素晴らしいが、その中でも 4「New York State of Mind」は彼を代表する名曲。
Billyのファンならずとも是非聞いて欲しいアルバムだ。

このアルバムは売上げでは「ストレンジャー」や「ニューヨーク54番街」などの傑作に劣るものの、このアルバムを最高傑作に挙げる人も多いと思います。なぜなら、アルバムの構成や「ニューヨークへの思い」や「楽しかった日々」な美しいバラードに、「さよならハリウッド」や「怒れる若者」などのポピュラーな曲を多く取り入れている曲の豊かさにあると思います。
「ニューヨーク54番街」や「グラスハウス」などのアルバムにあきたらこのアルバムをお勧めします。余り目立ちませんが名作です。

ビリージョエルのファンなら買うべき！！
昔からのファンなら知らない者がない名盤だ。
ビリー本人もミックス・ダウンが気に入っていない。
しかし、それに有り余る名曲の数々が存在する。
ちなみに、アルバム・ジャケットの背景にいる人たちは、曲に登場する主人公だ。
