デビュー作にして最高傑作といってもいいほどの出来。特に気に入っているのが以下の６曲。
1の"Child's Anthem"は、ドラマティックなインストゥルメンタル。
2の"I'll Supply The Love"は、ポップなラブソングだが、ルカサーのギターが印象に残る曲。個人的には一番のお薦め。
3"Georgy Porgy"は、カヴァーされたりするTOTOの代表曲の一つ。シブい曲です。
6"Girl Goodbye"はノリのいい曲。
9"Hold The Line"が、デビューシングル。全米５位の大ヒットを記録。ライブでの定番曲ですね。
10"Angela"は、TOTOのバラードの中でも１,２を争う曲。
高校生のときにこのアルバムを買ったのだが、聴き過ぎと貸し過ぎでボロボロになるほどのお気に入りで、墓場まで持っていきたいほどの１枚です。

TOTOのデビュー盤。ボズ・スキャッグスを始め、各セッションで腕を磨いたスタジオミュージシャンが集まって結成されたグループであることは周知の事実ですが、同じようにスタジオミュージシャンで結成されたグループに比べてあれほどポピュラーな存在になったのは、ボーカリストとしてインパクトの強いボビー・キンボールを置いたところではないかと思います。内容的にも意識的にポピュラーな曲調を意識し、自分たちの存在をより広くアピールしたい気持ちも伝わってくるようです。しかし一方で、このデビュー盤ではインスト曲から始めるところや、ボーカルの主導権はまだデビッド・ペイチが握っているところなどは、スタジオミュージシャンのプライドも覗かせます。テク、ハート、ポピュラー性を兼ね備えた好盤！

ＢＯＺ　ＳＣＡＧＧＳの名盤、ＳＩＬＫ　ＤＥＧＲＥＥＳのバックを
務めた当時名うてのスタジオミュージシャンが集結して作られたバンド、
ＴＯＴＯのファーストアルバム。

テクニックが非の打ち所がない面々が、上質の楽曲を提供する名盤中の
名盤です。

当時はＢＯＺのバックミュージシャンのイメージが強く、ＡＯＲ志向の

バンドというレッテルも貼られそうでしたが、2や6のような軽快な
ロックナンバーあり、名曲9があったり、とりわけ1がドラマチックな
インストナンバーであり・・・その中で3のようなシックなナンバー
あり・・・とバリエーションに富んだ捨て曲無しで安心して聴いていた
だける上質のロックアルバムだと思います。

リードボーカルをボビーキンボール、デビッ!ドペイチ、スティーブルカ
サーの３人が交互にとり、その点でも聴き手を飽きさせません。

８０年代に入る前の耳の肥えたロックファンは擦り切れるほどこのアル
バムを聴いていましたが、今でもその鮮烈さは衰えていません。

お勧めです。
