これはスゴイ!!長らく発売が待たれていたボブ・ディランの歴史的パフォーマンスがついに登場した。66年5月17日、マンチェスターのフリー・トレード・センターでのライヴを2枚組に完全収録。前半がアコースティック・セット、後半がホークス(後のザ・バンド)を従えてのエレクトリック・セットという2部構成で行なわれた当日のライヴは、名作『ブロンド・オン・ブロンド』発売前後に行なわれたツアーであり、フォークからエレクトリックヘの重要な転換期の貴重な記録でもある。そんな時期独特の緊張感が実感できるのがエレクトリック・セットの後半部分。「やせっぽちのバラッド」を歌い終わったディランと聴衆との激しいやり取り。そしてラストの「ライク・ア・ローリング・ストーン」のイントロが流れ、ディランが最初の一節を激しく歌い出す瞬間のあのスリル!ロックが最も時代と共振していた時期の貴重なドキュメントだ。 (木村ユタカ) --- 1998年11月号

このCDを初めて聴いた時は、それはもう鳥肌ものであった。disc1のアコースティックセット（つまりディラン一人によるギターとハーモニカのみ）での表情豊かな演奏は、まさに彼が天才であることを如実に示していると言える。特に"just like a woman"や"mr. tambourine man"が圧倒的に素晴らしく、これを聴けるだけでも相当の価値があるとここで断言しておく。

そして、1966年当時、世界的に物議を醸し出した歴史的なステージが収録されているのが、disc2である。「another side of bob dylan」まで全編ギターとハーモニカによる弾き語りというスタイルを通してきたディランが、とうとうロックバンドスタイルで聴衆の前に現れたのだ。（当時としては）音量もやかましいくらいに大きく、歌詞もそれまでのプロテスト的なものではなくなっていたために、聴衆からは激しいブーイングの嵐を受けたのだった。そして、この「観客vs.ディラン」という構図を最も立体的に追体験できるのが、本作というわけである。

ここまで力強いステージをなし得たのは、まさにディランだからこそであると断言できる。ロック屈指の名盤である。

1966年にイギリスで行われたロック史上に残るコンサートの記録である。DISC1ではギター一本での弾き語りを聴かせてくれる。「デソレーション・ロウ」ではぞんざいなハーモニカの吹きっぷりである。しかし、何と言っても最大の聴き所はDISC2である。「テル・ミー・ママ」はこれが初出。「レオパードスキン・ピルボックス・ハット」と「ライク・ア・ローリング・ストーン」が始まる前の保守的な観客のヤジへの反応は「革命」を意味しているといっていい。

客「ユダ！(裏切り者)」

ディラン「I don't believe you! You're A Liar！(お前を信じない！うそつきだ！」

ディランファンならずとも音楽をく聴く人すべてに薦める1枚。

いやあ、素晴らしい。というか、凄ェ。
ＤＩＳＣ１は、それまでのディランのイメージそのままの、アコースティック・ソロ。信頼第一。観客も安心。
ところが。
突如としてフォークの神様が牙を剥くＤＩＳＣ２。
アコースティック・ギターをエレキに持ち替え、観客の興奮と困惑と野次の中、ロック史に残るライヴ・パフォーマンスが展開されます。
何でも、ディランが「ロック」をやり始めた記念すべき瞬間との事（受け売り）。
バンドも気合い漲る演奏。若手のハードコア・バンドとかヘヴィ・ロック・バンドとかが裸足で逃げ出すド迫力。
ディランはロック史上最強のヴォーカリストだった！
全てのロックファンに。
