本作が世に出てから約１１年の歳月がたったが、トリビュート・アルバム史を語る際に不可欠の大傑作としての価値は不動だ。集まったアーティスト、曲の豪華さに驚く。彼女の生前の幅広い活動がいかに支持されていたか、彼女自身がいかに人々に愛されていたかを自ずと物語る。クラシック界からのトリビュート（ディスク（Ｄ）１Ｍ５にパヴァロッティが参加。Ｄ２Ｍ１６、１７はクラシックの曲をドミンゴ等が歌う）もあるが、多くはロック、ポピュラー界のスーパー・スターによるミディアムまたはスローテンポの曲。新たに録音された曲も数曲あるが、大半は既発表の曲。大ヒットした曲、当該アーティストの代表曲が多い。セルフ・カヴァーもある（Ｄ１Ｍ３、１１等）。一番古い録音が７０年代（Ｄ１Ｍ１６）で、８０年代の録音もあるが、大半は９０年代を代表する名曲の録音。そういう意味では貴重な音のタイム・カプセルだ。亡き人を偲ぶ、または愛する人に感謝を捧げる内容の詞が多く、追悼アルバムという趣旨に沿った曲が並ぶ。しかし、追悼という文脈を離れても、魅力十分の曲・演奏ばかり。１５３分じっくり聴いても単調さは微塵もなく、心がリフレッシュされる。

本作のみのエクスルーシヴ・トラックとされていたのが、Ｄ１Ｍ３、４、６、１１、１３、１４、１７、１８、Ｄ２Ｍ６、１１、１２、１７、１８の計１３曲。しかし本作発表前に既に、または発売後現在までに、他の音源で入手可能となった曲もある（Ｄ１Ｍ６等）。私はディランの曲のカヴァーが好きなので、歌詞が追悼むきなのか疑問がないでもないが、ロッドがディランの超名曲をじっくりと歌い上げるＤ１Ｍ１３が嬉しい。しかしそれも本アルバムの魅力のほんの一端に過ぎない。素晴らしすぎるトリビュートの鑑として万人に推薦するアルバムです。
