空前の大ヒットを記録した映画『タイタニック』のサウンドトラックです。耳に覚えのある旋律を聴いた途端に、映画を観た切ない感情がそのままよみがえってきます。老婦人ローズの回想から始まって、タイタニックの意気揚々とした航海、ジャックとローズの身分違いの恋、そして悲劇へ向かっていくタイタニックと人々の運命がそのまま音楽に仕上げた感じで、次々と映画の場面が浮かんできます。
ノルウェー出身の歌手シセルの哀愁漂うアイルランド調のメロディーや、セリーヌ・ディオンによる主題歌も、もちろん収録されています。映画の方で感動した後は、サウンドトラックでもう一度感動の余韻に浸るのはいかがでしょうか。

ジェームズ・ホーナーは非常に味のあるコンポーザーで、映画音楽ファンには面白い存在です。
彼の特徴として、とてもきれいなスコアを作るのですが必ず音楽が完結する、つまり編集のしにくいスコアになっていることが多いことがあげられます。

ある部分だけ抜き出せるようにメインフレーズを作るゴールドスミスやジマーとは対照的ですが、その分サントラ向きの作曲家であるともいえるでしょう。

さて、「タイタニック」は今更いうまでもないほどの大ヒットした映画ですが、内容的にはわりにベーシックな映画でもありました。

だいたい観客のほとんどがタイタニック号が沈むということを知っていて、主人公（女）が生き延びたことが最初からわかっているのですから筋も自ずからわかるというものです。

そんな映画を支えたのがホーナーのスコアです。長尺の映画であることが彼にとって幸いし、名場面をことごとく音楽で性格づけることに成功しました。

個人的にはシセル＝シルシェヴーのスキットがかなりのお気に入りで、それこそ何度も聞き込みましたね。映画は一度しか見ていないというのに……

サントラとしての完成度は抜群ですが、全ての楽曲が入っているわけではないことが玉に瑕ですね。
それでも自信を持ってお勧めできる１品です。

泣きたい！
そんな時にはタイタニックとか泣ける映画が見たくなる！
が、しかし見てる時間は無い！

ってな時はこれを聴く！

驚いたことに音楽だけで映画タイタニックの世界観を完全再現。
聴いてるだけで泣けてきます。

自分は寝る前などにウォークマンでよく聴いています。

どう聞いても音楽は「エンヤ」ですよね。
